always been divided personally on that issue. I'm a very strong beleiver in personal responsibility. This whole idea of going to a party, getting blasted, jumping in the car and crashing... then sueing the owner of the home where the party was, is idiotic. But, yes, the bar-keep in that situation ALSO have personal responsibility. This dumb-ass wasn't self medicating, he was served those drinks and could have easily been cut off. He would have been angry but alive.

Opinions - 1. Alcohol

With alcohol, of course, its effects depend on how quickly you consume it; some people on here were astonished that I put away ten pints, but it took me six or seven hours to drink those ten pints.Maybe that won't get you dead drunk, but there are still health repurcussions (statistically speaking).> I think the judge was right in awarding the compensation.I agree. The purveyors of the alcohol knew the risks, or surely should have, since they were selling it.Alcohol poinsoning happens regularly in the U.S., and from time to time when fraternity hazing rituals go wrong.

Apparently, as they were sitting at the bar itself, rather than in a corner, the barperson knew there was a drinking competition going on and, I'd imagine, wasn't thinking beyond how much extra money would be made as a result of it. Imagine if they'd considered it might end up costing them 100.000 euro!
I think the ruling set a good precedent. It may make other publicans think twice before serving someone till they get into disgraceful states, never mind deadly ones.
