Hello all, I was curious if any of you knew anything about pricing horses. Down the road from me, there is a woman who has two horses, a yellow and a cheasnut that she does a piss poor job of taking care of. I am going to buy them from her and move them up to Fairbanks with me, and then to Talkeetna when me move after that. My husband knows about taking care of them, and things like that, but I don't know what to offer the woman to buy them from her. She never takes care of them right, and every morning when I'm going out for my job I always tend to be the one giving them attention (they always run up to the fence to get the scratches and carrots). Well, I went for an evening jog just now and the yellow mare so I give her some lovin' and then as I'm running back home, she lets out the most sorrowful whine I've ever heard, so I'm going to take them since she's doing a down right shitty job. About how much for a Mare and a Gelding. Both aren't terribly large, neither are thorough bred.

Depends on what condition they are in. Around here horses that aren't trained specifically in anything, who are old, or who are young with little/no training, in bad shape or have health problems etc go for around $200-$1,000 each. I sold my nine year old Morab mare for $1,000 with all her tack. An excellent deal really, considering she was young and healthy. Nine years old, had basic training, great prospects etc. I had a trainer tell me she was worth $2,000 or more and then I had a trainer who didn't want to pay more than $400 for her and told me what I originally paid was a rip off lol. You might try asking a person who knows about horses in your area.

CR125's family is in the horse business. You should talk to him.

when u say yellow do you mean a palomina or a Cremello. If it’s a very pale yellow colord horse it could be a Perlino.here (south) we call palominos "yellers"... theses horses...do you know wut's their age, breeding, are they grade,or a reg. breed? do they have any kind of training? there is a long list. Thoroughbreds tend to be tall and lanky. Man there is so many breed types and each breed has it’s own look to it. Arabians tend to be tiny and then types. Grade horses are horses without papers.. some can be mixed breed and some can be stock breed. kinda like mix breed dogs (aka muts) just liek a dog, just cuz a horse don;t have papers don't mean it isn;t a good horse. BUT a grade horse is cheaper than a reg. horse would be. like say u offer $800 fro each horse. If there grade you may have a chance of getting them. If there not she'll probly say no. pends on how badly she wants to sale or keep theses horses. the main question is will this lady sell them? sometimes price has no meaning. some guy kept offering my mom $ for one of our studs and she said no he gave up at $60,ooo when she said no and no was final. she may not want to sell them. i understand the aggravation with people not taking care of their animals right. If she;s not willing to sale and she is not taking care of them you can get ....crap i forgot the name of that program. grrr well here we have a program that saves abused / neglected horses. they take them from the owners and went they have them ready they sale them. it's like a adoption thing kinda like. We acually have a mare that my mom gives beginner lesions on that she bought for almost nothing ($1,200) from a guy that was beating the shit out of her. She is reg tho. i don't know wut kind of shape theses ares are in. just cuz a horse runs up to the fence for attention doesn't mean it's being abused or neglected tho. nor does the neighing(?spelling).. our horse make shit awful sounds and they are just playing... one of our stud sounds like a giant hog snorting when he's about to mount a mare. they just have their sounds... but like i said. i dk nothing about that lady or her horses... If theses horse are showing ribs and bones then hell i'd be calling the humane society or something on her. i can just go by wut u have said...

She never cleans the stalls, they're emaciated, never brushed, the water is green has mosquitoes all over it, I was speaking to her today, the yellow one is a Perlino, neither are papered, she's sell both to me for $2000, plus a trailer (don't want the trailer, we can get a better one for next to nothing). Basically they were her daughter's, the daughter moved out, left the horses, and she doesn't really want them, therefore doesn't take care of them like she should.
-
that's disgusting
if your not buying the trailer i bet she'd take less.
If these horses don't know crap there not worth much... but you might can get them both for less. here (where i live) you can buy a good sized gentle basic riding horse that's grade for $800 -$1,000 (but that is a healthy horse too!) These don't sound healthy to me.. (but with time, care, and money they can be healthy ones)
Did she ever tell you wut her daughter did with the horses? like the training? I show against a girl that has a 1D / 2D barrel horse that is grade. they paid $12,000 for him. I know how much they paid for him cuz he was one of my mom's friends horse...but he's that good and was in exultant health too.If / When you chose to buy them ... get them to a vet so they can check them out. i bet they are full of worms and chances of strangles/ sickness is high.
man gross.. i have to clean out watering troghs(?spelling) every other day... actually it's every day cuz i don't do them all in one day. i do half one day and the next day the other half.... that's not even the water buckets that i have to check daily in the stalls... and we have 3 barns.
-
They can be ridden, and I already found a vet to take them to, she'll take $1500 for both w/o the trailer, so I'm going to hop over tonight and pick them up. Vet appointment tomorrow at 8am.
I guess her daughter just...kept them. She didn't train, and she only rode them on the weekends for a few minutes so they wouldn't try to break the fence to get out. *sighs* people irritate me.

I’m glade to hear your saving theses horses. The mare mom bought that She usees for beginner for lesions… She’s the sweatiest thing. I used to take her and go swimming in the pound we had at our old place. I’ll probly do it this summer too since now they bought some more land we have a small pond on it. The pond is in the brood mare pasture tho. It took a while for mom and dad to get the boogers out of her tho. She’s really good with beginners and kids…except They (we) have to explaine that you don’t pick up a stick or rope around her.. She’ll go nuts.
