That seemed very staged. Sooo, I guess it's still up in the air whether this guy is joking or not.

Abbi you and I are on fine ground, your not trying to push what you think on me, your discussing and questioning.I was refering to those that pass the laws, those that knock on my door and stop me on the street and those that actually have the balls to walk up to me while Im eating in a resteraunt and hand me literature telling me that its going to save me.Im happy being a godless heathen, I live my life the way I want to.The difference between them and me is that I do what I want and they do what they are told.I have several christian friends, I even have a few republican friends. The rules are that you do not discuss god opr politics and nearly everyone gets along fine.

I didnt think it was a joke, but I did laugh, the first laugh in a long while. My life has become nothing but work and Iv been doing long ass busting hours, since Im ahead on most stuff and behind on nothing I think Ill take this weekend off, spend some time with Julz and the kids and maybe go camping and smoke a bowl.I do belive its time to relax a bit and enjoy life instead of just working till I drop each night. The only really shitty thing is I create all this beautiful shit, calm relaxing serene ponds and decks and and play houses and patios and I never get to enjoy them.I have my own patio covered in plants anda small pond and waterfall and a few tall shade trees with humingbirds zipping around the feeders and I only get to see it on my way in at night, and my way out in the mornigs.Fuck I hate working so much, but it does pay the bills and when the weather gets winter, Ill be wishing I had this much work again so I suppose I shouldnt bitch about having it all now.anyways, its nota joke, it is laughable, but no joke, hes a god loving fag hating idiot.

alot of inductive reasoning, but i think the point it is some place else. people getting angry to the point of killing you because you are messing around with them has nothing to do with being an atheist, but more with being an intolerant, self-righteous person. this is what i find ironic. that we, the atheists have the upper hand, and that we laugh at these people for being self-righteous jerks, when we are doing the same when we become intolerant to them also, and we start to foolishly think that if we eradicate religion is gonna make it better? just like what the puritans did when they came to this country to escape religious percecution, and when they came here, what they did? percecute people for their religious beliefs, and do witch hunts? doesn't something repeat here? bottom line, if you get angry for someone trying to convert you, and whatnot, i guess you haven't read the first amendment. keep your cool. if you let people yank your chain you dance to their music. intolerance is in both sides. and it is misleading to generalize things, kind of what reductionists are doing with our foods, but that is another case.

that's not really what I meant lol. I think you got it a little twisted, BOB! lol. it's ok if people get mad or whatever, that's just human nature and what not. but like when you become like the hulk and you start wringing people's necks then yes... you have some serious issues, you need a psychiatrist, and you need to calm down. but it's ok to get upset. just not... an assassin, if you get me.
-
Well to be fair, Atheists aren't the ones with the history of killing non-believers. Even in these days we have religious fanatics flying planes into buildings and blowing up abortion clinics.
-
they both share an equal amount of hatred. ever read Foxe's Book of Martyrs? you'd be surprised. and I don't mean history lol. I'm talking about now today. if I'm talking to an atheist and he starts yelling and cursing me out simply because I don't believe the same things as him then I would be smart enough to stay out of his path. <<< basically the sense I'm going for this entire time.
-
Joke or not, I still laugh and think it's ridiculous.

I've become convinced that it's all a parody

got ya.

What the hell are you talking about hon? No atheists, jews, or hell, hindus I know would yell or curse at people because of how they believe.Up here, in alaska however, They are church signs that say Tolerance is a bad thing, and that atheists will burn in hell. The problem I have with very preachy christians is their holier then thou attitude, because they assume they know everything that g-d whats, and everything he means. another major thing i have is that they think we need to be saved, or that we are lacking something. Atheists at most just think christians are ignorant.

Quote:if I'm talking to an atheist and he starts yelling and cursing me out simply because I don't believe the same things as him then I would be smart enough to stay out of his path.I usually don't jump in, but it's hard to avoid people that go door to door and ask if you believe in Jesus or not. Most people don't like it. I find it intriguing and invite them in for a nice debate. Haha.

Quote:if I'm talking to an atheist and he starts yelling and cursing me out simply because I don't believe the same things as him then I would be smart enough to stay out of his path.I've never heard of anything like that, but I do know that I cannot mention that I'm an Atheist to my own family. My grandparents would disown me, as would most of my aunts and uncles. My mother hides my beliefs from them cause even she knows how they'd feel if they knew. When it comes to religion, whether somebody is Christian, Muslim or Atheist, there is always the superiority complex. It is a lot stronger in some people and these are usually the people that harass others, but since you believe you are right its not actually something you can prevent. And as annoying and stupid as it is may seem to disagree, most people have good reason to argue. For Christians, they think that people will go to Hell if they don't believe and follow God. So in their minds, what they did to Chance was a good thing, but since Chance does not believe and doesn't feel the need to be saved, conflict arises. For the Atheists, the biggest problem that religion causes is the restrictions that it puts on the world and the judgements that it feels it can make regarding morality; stem-cell research and abortions being the popular examples. For example just in the Irish news in the past 2 weeks was a 17 year old girl who got pregnant, but her baby had a condition called Anencephaly, which meant that her baby's brain would not develop and it wouldn't live longer than 3 days outside of the womb. She was in the care of the National Health Services and they refused to let her travel to the UK to have an abortion, they physically stopped her from leaving the country claiming that they were saving the life of the unborn child. The girl had to get a Supreme Court ruling to let her leave the country. What has that got to do with religion, you may ask. Well the NHS's decision to stop the girl going to the UK for the operation was based on Ireland's deep religious roots, and laws created during the Catholic church's rule over our government. So what I'm saying is the Atheism has trouble sitting back and just letting religions do what they want because not everything that religion does is good. As an American living in New York, you know first hand the negative effects of some religious beliefs.I can't disprove the existence of God, nobody can, but with so may different religions saying so many different things, how can anyone trust one view as a moral compass? Humans have a history of trying to see themselves as superior, religion is just another tool to achieve this.

My family knows I am bobbo. My dad joined me a few years later, my mom belives in somethign undefined, 2 of my brothers joined me a bit back and the other brother gets pissy about it all if its brought up.My 14 year old son says he is as well while my 16 year old is undecided.I like his attitude, I dont think your ready to make a decision like that till your a bit older and have seen and done more than a 16 year old has.The other day, driving up the canyon to do some hiking I got into with some asshole on a 4 wheeler because he wanted to kick my ass because I have a silver fish with feet on my car that says darwin. He was very irrate and spouting god shit at me and telling me I was going to burn in hell and he was going to kick my ass.People should be carful what they say as some people will pull over to the side of the road and get out, and some people really do want to fight once they have been cahllenged and wont run away. You have to watch what you say to people and not write checks your ass cant cash.I dont think when I got back into the car he was in any shape to drudge down that ravine and get his 4 wheeler back up to where you can ride it not to mention on its wheels instead of its side full of dents and scratches.Dont fuck with people unless you really are ready and willing to kick thier ass and think you can do it.He didnt really want to fight, he just wanted to look tough and that was even more evident when I got out of the car and ran to him and kicked him off his fucking machine with a nice heel to the throat. The people I live around are why I am so violent. I guess we need wolves to eat the sheep or the population would explode, but damn I hate thos esheep that cant keep thier mouths shut.

Agreed...and not everything athiests do is good, either. In this country (America), we are relatively free to believe (or not) as we want. Upholding that right must take first priority as, once gone, whoever is in power can force their beliefs (or disbeliefs) on everybody else. Historically speaking, it's usually been the athiests who seek to take that right away. Hitler immediately comes to mind, but the majority of other diabolical leaders in history have been athiests...those who, lacking any form of external moral compass, answer to nobody but themselves. I, for one, can see the obvious danger of such people coming to positions of power in this world. You don't have to believe as a Christian in order to give them a pat on the back for creating the initial laws in this short-lived country that protect a person's right to believe (or disbelieve) as they want. There are a lot of other countries that don't protect those rights to the extent that they are protected here.

Well I don't remember Hitler doing anything in the name of Atheism. The only religious involvment in Hitler's plan was to get rid of the Jews, which was a political move fuelled by the hatred for his Jewish father. But again, what is this ridiculous belief that Atheists lack a moral compass? What compass should I follow, your Bible? Ok then, Krystal! Krystal! Where are ya!?! You're now my slave, and there's no need to complain, the Bible says its ok. Oh, Abi, I'll have you too! And A.W., get your little black ass over here, you're mine!My moral compass is what my family taught me and what I, as a concious inteligent social human being, feel is right. Does that make me evil? I trust in my own judgement, and surprise surprise, my judgement doesn't say that killing or raping is ok! This is actually a perfect example of that superiority complex that I talked about early, you honestly believe that your morals are better than mine simply because you have a 1700 year old book to help you. I have news for you, a lot of the morals in the Bible, the half decent ones atleast, aren't original ideas. They're common sense! "Thou shall not kill", well duh!! Ha! Speaking of which, lets look over the history of Christians ignoring their own moral compass!! Several hundred years of murders in the name of God, I suppose most of us missed the Terms & Conditions written below the 10 Commandments...Have Atheists done terrible things in the past and continue to do so today? Yes, of course. But how many Atheists have done terrible things in the name of Atheism? Or for a bigger number, how many Christians have done terrible things in the name of Christianity?
-
well duh, if you're not a Christian then how in the world would you know? lol
It's happened to me several times. In school, at work, at my community service jobs etc etc. It's never-ending but I really don't care I've gotten so used to it. and it can happen in the most subtle ways. Like at school whenever I pray before I eat or read my teen study Bible during study hall, people laugh and point all the time. if a girl is willing to pick a fight with you just for looking at her weird it's obvious she's going to attack you for something like that. I had a girl come up to me two weeks ago and call me a stupid "b*tch" because I believe in fairytales. and when I prayed before lunch last week my best friend's boyfriend said "what the f*ck are you retarded? you're talking to yourself"... and some other things I shant mention. when I was at work and I was clearing off the table at the diner this woman sneezed and I said "God bless you" and she was like "did I ask you? effin heffer". I think she was having a bad day though. I was about to slap her with the plate and get myself fired. It happens all the time but like I said, I don't care. I don't pay attention to people who pick fights with me over something like that.
that's why my sister doesn't talk about her beliefs at work. which is hypocritical. because she works with filmmakers and producers and all that good stuff and they're not necessarily the type of people who care for that sort of stuff. she got in an argument/fight before because she confronted a guy who made a bad joke about Christians and was going to make it into a commercial. but that's the only event she's told me about.
and why do you think that Christians only talk about going to hell? that's a stereotype. a bad one too. I and most of my church friends whenever we mention it to our friends from school, that is the last thing to come up. If anything I tell them about the joy and happiness, the love, and paradise.

People tend to pick on people that are different. If you set yourself away from the group by your actions, then you're also setting yourself up for ridicule. Anyways, that's just what I gathered in high school. The "in crowd" tended to alienate people who were different. The group of people I hung out with was much like a "breakfast club" of people that accepted whoever. If you were to sit and pray before your meal around the "popular" people at my high school, you would have been ridiculed. If you were to do the same thing around the people I hung out with, we would have thought nothing of it. The interesting thing about this is most of the "popular" people are Christians... but you would have still been different and prodded at for being different. The group I hung out with had a mix of beliefs and we recognized that everyone was different.
My point being... it doesn't necessarily mean it's the Christians or the non-christians that are poking fun.
