Probably becuase the Alchoholic parent drives u to the point of drinking.

So let me get this straight.
-
No, they found that children of a person who has an addiction, genetically have a higher chance of also having an addiction.
-
It appears to have something to do with the distribution of pleasure receptors in the brain.

wonderful.. just wonderful. .... time to track down my father and lecture him to death.
-
Yeah I know. There is a reason its been over 10 years since i've seen him xD.I already know i have an addictive personality. It really shows in many ways. (computers, video games, anything I get really interested in >.Oh well I quit drinkin at least.
-
Meh. I quit a long time ago.. I really have no intention of starting again. why take an unnessicery risk. Plus I drank in extreme moderation.. however, apparently that was too much according to alot of people.maybe sometime later in life.. not now thou.. bout to start college >.<

Almost my entire family on both sides are/were/have been alcoholics and I am not. This isn't because I've avoided alcohol-I have periods where I choose to drink very heavily, in fact, but it's not at all regular or dependant. I think that this is just because I don't have an addictive personality-never have. However, you say you do, and I think you should trust yourself. So if you drink in the future, be careful, set limits on yourself, etc.
-
I drank heavily as a teen, and I didn't really as an adult. In fact, for a lot of years, I got teased for being such a light weight. I was the one who was drunk on 2 and sick at six.At 27 I DID become an alcoholic. Not a fun thing to get out of, or admit. I caution ANYONE, that it can get out of hand before you know it. And it is an UGLY UGLY monster!A beer here and there, and ok, one more, and next thing you know...You wonder how you got there. UGLY!!!
-
I never really did beer.. It was either wine coolers/daqueris..or like rum or wiskey.. or something like that.

In my psychology class I took, my professor told us that we are less than 10% ourselves. The rest of us is all learned behavior from observation. Maybe the mixture of watching a parent with alcoholism and suffering from depression/anxiety from said alcoholic parents drives one to be alcoholic.
