Destiny vs. Fate

It's off to the right, over next to the number of replies.

I removed it. Probably just a mistake.

There's a good discussion of the Lincoln-Kennedy "coincidences" here.

fate can only be seen in retrospect.end of discussion

...and what about destiny?

Quote:
Jenny, I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.
I like the floating around part... Yeah.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the dictionary defines Fate as:
Something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune; lot: It is always his fate to be left behind.
while it defines Destiny as:
something that is to happen or has happened to a particular person or thing; lot or fortune.
Both have synonymous meanings and thesaurus.reference say this:
Main Entry: destiny
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: fateDestiny and fate are the same thing, no? it's like asking what scream means and then asking what yell is afterwards :scream_cat:

They are pretty much the same, but looking at it futher, destiny kind of leans toward the future while fate kind of in the present or past tense.

Thank you for that post. I like the future vs retrospect referrence. Very nice.
