Shaving against the grain (facial :P )

As I understand it, shaving that way can cause the increased chance of cuts by the razor and may cause more razor burn. It doesn't feel that good either because the hair is being "pulled" more than cut. However, in spite of that I can shave pretty much in all directions without much problem. To each his own I guess.

The reason your told not to shave against the grain, is because if you do you risk the chance of your hair becoming ingrown.
Ingrown hair can be painful. Essentially the pore your hair is coming out of closes up but the hair continues to grow and it will become slightly infected and full of puss. Think, a big painful zit or boil. If it gets to bad, you might need a doctor to locally cut it open, drain out the puss and rank out or cut the hair so make it get better.
Its rare that happens, but painful (now imagine that in the groin! ouch) sometimes it can clear itself up in a few weeks as well.

i shave with the grain, and against it
i like to mix it up and keep things intresting

I'll also shave in both directions even if they say you shouldn't. There's just no way that I can get as smooth a shave unless I go against the hairs.

lol I shave against the grain as well...doesn't change the fact of what can happen :P

Bah, I never shave against the grain. I dunno why ot's bad, I'm just not accustom to it...
