Does any one know what long term effects does overdosage of haloperidol have on a patient?6 years back, I was given very high doses of haloperidol injections(12-16 amps of 5mg/day) by a physician along with oleanzepin, which was not my psyciatrist's recommendation, for 5 weeks, no one knew what he was doing and I was not conscious, only when my symptoms reached peak and I was dying as i couldnt breathe did anyone think something was wrong, up until then they all thought I was putting on a act (dont know how they get such ideas ). I have been having epileptic seizures (doctors denied it was due to haloperidol) since then and now my short term memory is getting effected. I have developed allergies to stuff i wasnt allergic to before. I am very sensitive to sunlight or any bright lighting. I am also bruising very easily. Is this due to haloperidol? will it go away by itself or should I take other medication to help me through this? please anybody help me cos its having a very bad effect on my life.PS: I am not on any meds since then as my epilepsy increased if I took any anti depressants or anti-psycotic drugs.

Regarding haloperidol......
-
The major bad effects of haloperidol (and also olanzepin) are possible movement disorders, including the possibility of developing tardive dyskinesia (involuntary repetitive movements, especially of the face) or akathisia (restlessness, inability to stay still, with anxiety). However there are other, uncommon, side-effects reported, including photosensitivity. Developing allergies and bruising aren't reported, however. Symptoms that are only now developing would not be due to haloperidol six years ago.I wonder if what happened six years ago was a neuroleptic malignant syndrome?
