In most lubes there's stuff like parabene and other possibly dangerous substances. Could this cause problems in the long run?And I think lube for anal use is even more a problem. While you can just wash your penor and remove the lube you can't or won't get an enema to remove lube in there and if it stays in there then the mucous membranes will absorb the stuff just like when you suppository. I don't think that's really healthy.

How safe is lube in the long run?
-
Well, it is healthy, as most lube is made just for that. Usually they'll have to be approved by the FDA and they're usually approved for "use inserting medical instruments". So there's really no need to worry, at least with most water based types.

looking at the assortment of lubes I have in my nightstand, not a single one says approved by FDA. FDA is food and drug admin, they do not do lube. I happen to have several different brands, for my money, I like astroglide or Wet for sex, if your gonna be sticking your tongue in it after its been lubed up I like emotion lotion, that shit that gets hot when ya blow on it. Iv been through many lubes, have many half empty and nearly full bottles that did not pass the test. I would throw them out, but sometimes I run out of my favorites and need a back up. So long as they are not too old, I use them, if they are I chuck em in the trash. Been using various lubes (read lubes, purchased as lube for the purpose of sex, not vasoline or various oils) for easy 20 years, never a problem with water based lubes.

Lubes can damage the colon cells:http://www.aegis.com/news/catie/2007/CATE-N20070303.html Quote: The lubricant called FemGlide (Slippery Stuff) was the only product that did not have the potential to significantly pull water out of cells. The researchers classified it as hyposmolar, suggesting that it had the potential to push water into cells.

Cells lining the intestines reproduce rapidly, so killing some off osmotically is probably not serious.
The parabens, at the sort of concentrations used, are probably not a problem, except for people with a paraben allergy. Their dangers are talked up in some popular literature, but there is very little real evidence of it.
