Brain abscess
-
what i really meant to ask was can you get one from sharing needles?
-
Only if you were injecting your brain, I'd have thought. But it's a good way to get AIDS, and a lot of other blood-borne diseases.
-
well if you had aids why wouldn't you get a huge buildup of puss and bacteria eating away your brain after sharing a dirty needle?
-
That's a stretch. Aids results from a virus. Although your immune system would be weakened, I wouldn't count on acquiring a brain abscess.
-
so the chances of getting an abscess in your brain due to bacteria in your blood would be low?
-
Lol. Who knows? I think the chances of getting a brain abscess are very low, period. People with AIDS have a viral infection in their blood. That doesn't imply that they have a bacterial infection as well.
-
but people with aids would be more likely to get a bacterial infection, wouldn't they?
-
Sure, but my point is that the link is very tenuous, I would guess that brain abscesses would more commonly result from untreated infections on your face, head, ears, sinus, etc. What makes you so interested?
-
After looking more closely at your initial post, it seems like these abscesses are most commonly associated with chronic, untreated ear infections (otitic infections).
