Hey, my girlfriend and I have been together now for 3 months. Recently, she mentioned to me that she missed three days of her BC pill, but took them all right after. Due to this drop in hormones, she began to bleed for a few days, then all was normal. We did have unprotected sex after the fact, this was approx. 2-3 weeks ago. Now, she is on her placebo pills, has bled a little bit, but not much. We are both concerned, as we are young and unprepared to bring new life into this world. Are our concerns warranted? How could we know for sure, perhaps a home pregnancy test? If so, is there a certain amount of time that we would need to wait before such a test would show the correct results?I appreciate your valid feedback.

A little concerned...

A pregnancy test will probably give accurate results within a few days of conception, but you should read the instructions in the package. In the future, you should either abstain or use condoms for an entire cycle if she misses pills like this again. However, even with pills there is that < 1% chance of failure. So be careful.

Well, if a girl misses three pills or more she should throw the pack away! Two is the maximum a girl can miss. As far as weather she's pregnant or not, Even if she never missed a pill in her life, she could still be pregnant. Pills are only about 97-99% effective for a PERFECT user, who never misses a pill. Next time, abstain for a full month before going at it or tell her about ECPs. Emergengy Contraception Pills are becoming easier to get, now available over the counter. Or, as sdp said, use condoms for a full month untill her NEW pack kicks in.

thank you both for your input. I love my girlfriend with all my heart, she means the world to me! In future, we'll both be more aware and smarter about the risks until the time is right for us. Thanks again

It's probably smartest to use a condom even if she is on the pill.
