Symptoms sometimes take a long time to reveal itself. Using a condom definitely reduced the chances, but go get tested just to be sure.

If you used protection, you are more than likely fine. After a few weeks you can be tested for general stds, like clamydia, gonorreah, syphillis, etc. (I don't know how to spell those! hee hee) but for HIV you have to wait, it could take between 3-6 months. As far as herpes, you usually have an outbreak within a few weeks... With warts or herpes, there really isn't anything to worry about unless you get symptoms. Blood tests are the only other way to tell if you have warts or herpes, and those aren't usually issued unless a doctor believes you have a reason to be tested.. (ex. an unexplained bump or sore that they can't identify) I'm sure you are fine. You can get tested to clear your mind. If you notice something out of the ordinary though, you better get checked out right away.

thanks for the reply..i think i've just been driving myself crazy...but according to the HIV testing place i called, if you use a condom then then chances are almost 0% of contracting the virus...how many weeks would you suggest to wait before STD tests and how long do those take to come out?

Go to a Health Department, Planned Parenthood or STD clinic near you. (They are usually free or low cost and provide confidential services.) I would say if it's been a month or so you can go get what they call an STD screen. They will test for all of the common ones. It takes between 1 and 2 weeks for results. Then after 6 months you can try an HIV test. Results also may take up to 2 weeks. If a clinician orders a blood test for warts or herpes (which they problem won't unless you get a bump that looks like an std to them) that also may take up to two weeks to get back.

hey with warts and herpes arent you suppose to be able to see visible symptons pretty soon after the incident? i thought i read somewhere 2 to 10 days..boo, thanks for your helpful advice. i wake up everyday and am thankful that i dont have any symptons but still the waiting period to get screened is still a little rough sometimes but i guess its more of a mental thing...

Hey, no problem. If you read some of my posts and replies to others, I know where you are coming from. I was an std hypocondriac after a one time mistake almost a year ago. Um, most say you have a herpes outbreak within two weeks of contracting it. I don't know much about warts.... sorry. I would assume it wouldn't be much longer. However, some websites I read said that it could take a while to get an outbreak if your immune system is very strong. Then sometimes get an outbreak when they get ill or very stressed when their immune system is compromised. And, unfortunately, some people contract the virus and never have an outbreak. They are just "carriers" - meaning they can transmit the disease through something called asymptomatic viral shedding, even though they themselves have never had sores. Fortunately, it's pretty uncommon to never have an outbreak if you have herpes. But relax... no need to worry until you have a reason to. I know that's impossible though; I've been there. Just try.
