Are you sure about that. I know making internal modicifcations voids the warranty, but I have never heard that before, I'll call my service writer tomorow. That seems pretty funny becuase what is the differnece between track driving and raping your car through a canyon? And how would they find out? Mabye your tread ware would give evidence, but there is no way to verify.

I'm not sure if that's literally correct, but if you bring your car into their shop and you tell them you just had the car on the track and XYZ broke, you'll have a problem if you try to get BMW to cover it under warranty.
One guy's M5 servicing story. (heated garage -- bad idea)

Mine has been good so far. My Dad took good care of it for the short while he had it and I don't abuse it, but drive it hard. The M3 has has a lot of problems as well, which isn't suprising considering how much stress these engines are put through. When mine start to pall apart I'll get a new one.

With these cars, keeping up with servicing is very important. Buying a used one that was a lease car is probably a good bet, because the leasors lose a lot if they don't follow the recommended schedule. Buying one from a stranger, with no stack of service records, is a roll of the dice. You are lucky to have one that is known to have be well taken care of.
-
The guy with that whole complaint list bought his 30,000 miles used. That seemms stupid with any performance car. I have taken all of my Dad's cars to that drag strip and personally raped them for the day. But even on trade in they can't tell how you have treated them if the appear to be well taken care of.
-
Yup, that's true. Even if a car is serviced according to schedule, it can still be abused. No teenager will drive my car! (And you wouldn't believe the insurance rates where I live...I could buy a high-end scooter for the cost of a year of insurance.)
-
My insureance is $7000 for the year. My brother got guoted on a 545i and it was $6,500. The La area is pretty suck. If I lived in Santa Barbara it would be under $5000.
-
$7000? $6500? Holy $$&#)@! I pay a bit under $3000...I thought that was nuts.Is that the brother who just got a ticket?
-
Yeah, I two, but one is on my record. my Dad quoted him on the 545i because that's what he is getting. Insane!! How old are you? Once you're 25 your insureance will be cheap.
-
Too late, I'm over 25. No one under 25 could be this pedantic and pompous. The insurance folks said my area had (among) the highest rates in the country. I guess they didn't know about your area.Around here, lots of expensive cars, lots of uninsured drivers, people drive crazy, lots of people get killed on the higways...a bad combination.
-
Once I'm over 25 my rates will get cut to 1/3 of the cost according to my Dad insurance broker.

In some places, your rates drop if you're married (or they do if you're under 25 anyway). Go get married and save your parents some money.
