I am so sorry that America isn't an appeaser like Canada and France are. I am sorry if people don't like us for that too, but someone has to stick up for their guns. I really don't have time to argue right now because I am going clubbin with my girlie, but I'd love to finish up this conversation when I get back.

Newsweek's story kills 16 in riots

First of all there's something between being an appeaser and being a bully. Extremes are usually not the best places to be.But the U.S. shouldn't be in business to posture, like a steroided-up body bulder. We should be concerned about our security and our economy. It seems like the things we're doing might not be the best thing for either. A lot depends on how things turn out in Iraq (and Afghanistan, if anyone still cares). But we're making a lot of enemies along the way. At some point things might cool down in Iraq, and a lot of people hanging around there might come here and blow things up.If you think the solution involves hating Arabs, you are sadly mistaken.

What the hell does having Persian friends have to do with anything? Is that supposed to show that you're not racist? Because you are racist. And your cars (why does one boy need two cars?) get crap mileage. Why compare them to an SUV? Why not compare them to a tank? And to think, all that wasted fuel so a teenage guy can cruise around Beverly Hills. Sounds like a good use of precious resource. The Arab sheiks have us by the balls in large part becase people like you and me drive cars that waste oil. Maybe they'll finance more terrorism in the U.S., while the Bushes hug them and call them members of the family. (Remember Bandar "Bush"?)
-
don't compare us to france, we never surrendered and we have succesfully invaded the US. ok, that fun aside, if you don't care about the world opinion of the US then you don't even remember 9-11!Joe, how can you trade successfully without understanding the world? Or maybe your daddy-safetynet is still too tight. Think man....Think!

In the U.S., for better or worse, the average person can get along quite well without knowing much of anything about the rest of the world. That means that the politicians can say whatever crazy stuff they want, because the citizenry has no reason to doubt them...they don't know any better.
-
OMG you have hit the nail on the head!!blind ignorance is bliss
-
Steve would you stop calling me a bigot beccause that is one thing I am not. As for me having two cars, I have every right to. As for gas consumption who cares.
-
I call you a bigot because you say viciously bigoted things about Arabs. You have every right to have two cars that get poor gas mileage. You also have every right to leave your kitchen faucet running around the clock. They're both wasteful, but we don't depend on the Arab leaders for water. We depend on them for oil. And now China is using an increasing amount of oil, which makes it even more scarce and drives up the price. In the U.S., little attention is given to energy independence (it's a complicated problem, and there are business interests with political influence that want things to stay just the way they are). You're concerned about our security but not concerned about our oil consumption (some of which is your fault). Theoretically, if we didn't need their oil, we could just get out of the Arab lands, which would calm down the crazy radicals. But now we're stuck there, and we're stuck dealing with dictatorships that everyone who's not in the royal families hates. We're propping up governments that are totally undemocratic, even while whe claim to be bringing democracy to Iraq (which sits on top of one of the worlds largest oil reserves).Your actions, multiplied by all the other people like you, is putting the U.S. further and further behind the 8-ball.

ok, everyone, IMO this is a very important concept and deserves some serious discussion. Let's not let it descend into personal attacks. As it stands (like it or not) America's view of the world vs. the world's view of America has a tangeble affect on most of us.The parable of the toad and the scorpion sometimes comes to mind.

Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, in a speech he gave in the U.S. (Boston University's commencement?), said that the Newsweek article had nothing to do with the riots. Karzai said the protesters were angry about the elections in Afghanistan. But Karzai was pretty upset about the two prisoners who died (were murdered, actually) while in American custody in Afghanistan (at the Bagram military base).

According to Friday's New York Times: In reply to:The magazine retracted the desecration report last week, but an American military inquiry found five cases in which the Koran had been mishandled by interrogators and guards at Guantánamo.Well, it looks like Korans were desecrated at the Guantánamo detention facility. It also appears that the Army knew about it all along, all during the big Newsweek stink.
-
The Pentagon's investigation turned up five cases, which means there were probably many more. They are not familiar with the concept of independent investigation. The Pentagon released the information at 7:15 PM ET Friday, which meant it was released too late to be included in the network evening news broadcasts. Those guys manage information like a criminal gang.
