I was really stupid about 2 weeks ago. I got a severe sunburn on my upper body (while doing yardwork). I went to the doctor and she said that I had High 3rd degree, possibly second degree burns. She almost made me inpatient. She gave me ALL the skin cancer info and scared the crap outta me. Well now, almost two weeks later, and a couple of very bad skin peels later, I have a question. How soon will I notice these spots? Can they show up pretty quickly? Obviously I'm asking because there is one small spot on my back that is real sensitive, and itchy, and has a crusty tan/pink scabby look and feel. I don't want to overreact because the skin on my back is still healing from the burn...but I don't want to do nothing if skin cancer type moles can be found this quickly. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hey there... I'm not doctor, this i just my personal opinion....I ended up with almost the same burn your talked about 6 years ago, and three weeks ago I had my first spot removed from the area where the burn was....Thus, I'm thinking that you're prolly ok... I'm pretty sure that cells need longer than a couple of weeks to develop... altho, like i said I'm not educated fully in skin cancer....If you're really concerned make an appt. with your doctor or a dermatologist... but I'm pretty sure it's just your skin healing naturally and not something to be too worried about.....

Most likely it's just an area where the burn is a bit deeper. If it doesn't heal in a week or so then you should see a doctor about it.
Melanomas tend to take some time to develop.
