I was recently considering getting the para gaurd IUD but my obgyn said it was really uncomfortable and your periods get heavier and your cramps get worse. She said I should try Mirena, which is an IUD that uses a low dose of hormones instead of copper. With Mirena your periods could stop all together because it thins out the utrine lining.I was just wondering if anyone had any experience (good or bad) with this (I've never heard of it) and if anyone knew how much it cost.thanks

Hey Tigress,Mirena does keep the uterine lining thin and this is how it prevents a pregnancy - there is nothing there for the embryo to implant in. I have a couple of friends who wear one and they have complained of spot bleeding and cramping, others have had no worries at all. whatever you choose - remember that you are placing a foreign object inside your body and there will be some reaction to it. how much of a reaction depends entirely on your body and unfortunately you cannot predict what that will be.I'm an aussie and have no idea what you'll have to pay for it in the states.good luck!
