I'm 16, 5'10'' and around 185lbs. I'm not very active but I'm about to be, I'm gonna be walking 2.5 miles every other day to the YMCA (and back), I passed weight-training, raquetball, and swimming, so I can do all of those. Which would be the best though? And is there a website or something that lists what kinds of foods i should be eating? I really want to lose as much weight as I can in a small margin of time.

Shaving off like 5-10lbs

Just run those 2.5 miles everyday, you will lose 5-10 pounds after a short period of time. And eat a balanced meal, with some veggies, fruits, carbs, and proteins...Just stay moderate with everything you eat and you should be fine.

Swimming would be the best overall. It works a very large range of muscles in your body, and it is good for building endurance, muscular tone, and for your cardiovascular health. The others are good too. I'd suggest doing all of them. A balanced variety of activity is usually the best way to go.

Swimming is also easy on the bones and joints, compared to things like running. If you have a pool available, you might as well use it.

Well every other day I'll be walking 2.5miles to the pool, spend about 2-3 hours swimming and maybe lifting a few weights, then walking 2.5 miles back. Ok. My question is. If I do that for the rest of the month before school starts, (every Tues, Thurs, Saturday) and reaaalllllyyy watch what I eat (no soda, chips, etc) How many lbs could i shave off? That's about 15 days of heavy excersize. Or I could go 4 days a week, everyday but fridays and weekends? Or should I do it everyday but weekends? That would equate to about 20 days before school starts where I exercise really heavily. I could also plan on jogging abit (less than a mile) on those weekends in the mornings? thanks guys.

by the way i just weighed myself and im about 180lbs. like i stated before im 5'10'' 180lbs, would me as 5'10'' 165lbs look a lot different?

I'm sure that by exercising and toning up, it'll make a noticeable difference to how you look. It takes a long time to get in great shape, but you seem to be very dedicated, and I'm sure you'll be noticing some results by the time school starts. I'm about 155-160 lbs and 6'00" now that I'm almost 17, and a year and a half ago I used to be 175 lbs and 5'10 1/2" when I was 14. I was never overweight or very flabby, but I notice that I now have far more tone in my body, and the most noticeable difference is that I feel better both mentally and physically (I believe it's true that exercise helps to train the mind and body). For your rests, could you exercise on one day of the weekend and put a rest day in the middle of the week? This gives your body more frequent rests to recooperate. As far as cutting out pop and chips, that can make a huge difference. Those extra unhealthy sources of calories provide little to nothing for you. Pop is all simple carbs (sugars), and chips are salty, greasy, and lacking in nutritional value.

You think excersize might help me hit 6'0''? I turned 16 this year. Oh yeah and this is day #2 I just got back from my morning jog, and I might goto the YMCA later. Oh yeah. One more thing. I had a handful of shrimp for dinner last night you think thats healthy? (none of that cocktail sauce)

It's all about moderation. Don't eat too much saturated fats (so stay away from deep-fried/heavy-in-oil foods), minimize carbohydrate intake, try to avoid foods high in trans fat (foods high in trans fat include: french fries, potato chips, chocolate chip cookies--basically all the stuff that's bad for you anyway). You can eat what you'd like (as long as you don't forget your fruits, veggies, and grains for the day!) as long as you eat them in smaller portions. It's better to eat 5 small meals a day than 2 uber-large meals. For exercise, try to jog part of the 2.5 miles (and keep jogging a little more of the distance until you can jog the whole way).
