have you tried opera? I adore it. You can block all popups, but if there is one you want it has a little thing in the corner all you have to do is click it to open the popup. Ive never had problems with it, it rocks.

Firefox also has what you describe.
I tried Opera a l-o-n-g time ago, when there was a free version, long before Firefox exited. It didn't use up a lot of memory or disk space, was very fast, and it would let you open up a bunch of browser windows in one main window. Now it has tabbed browsing, like Firefox and Netscape, and tabbed browsing totally rules. Then Opera started charging for their browser, which made me lose interest, and didn't help them gain market share. It looks like they threw in the towel and made the Windows version free again, but they're charging for the cell phone version(s) of their browser.
Each of the browsers have a certain look and feel, but I'm not sure what recommends Opera over Firefox, or vice versa.
We know that IE is a total PoS. How does Apple's Web browser compare? (I think Opera and Firefox come in Macintosh versions).
Edit: Ugghhh....the free version of Opera has a permanent ad banner...you have to pay Opera to get rid of it.

Yea but you can make the ad banner at the top and very small. In opera it allow me to have a personal Bar, google toolbar (best thing in the WHOLE world) Its so fast, there are no popups and no spywear gets thru (with the back up of nortons firewall) I love the dowloads transfer page its a huge help when your doing lots of download. Like you said, the tabs are great. It lets me close all images on the webpage for faster loading, zoom in and out on the page, undo if i accidently close a page, Spell Checker (that i rarely use, but its there) And anything is better then IE. (Im not familiar with firefox if it has some of the stuff i listed)

Firefox has all of the features you mentioned, except for the ad banner. A cool feature if Firefox is a "lookup bar" that you can type stuff into, and search on it using Google or whatever, but you can add things to it. I don't recall if Wikipedia was part of the list or whether I added it, but I did add dictionary.com. Very, very convenient. Also, you can highlight a word or phrase on a Web page, right click, and do a search (default is Google...at least for me)...saves you from having to paste into the search bar, or from having to open a new window or tab for Google and pasting.Different pieces of software, even with similar capabilites, will each have their own look and feel. Which one a person prefers is a matter of taste. Think of Firefox as a brunette, Netscape as a blond, Opera as a redhead, and IE as an old bald guy.

The thing that gets me is why microsoft isnt doing anything to make people want to use IE. And why most people use it! I guess their just lazy and dont want to find something betterOh, and opera has downloadble skins that i adore has over 100 I tried to get firefox, but one look and i didnt like it (Strictly by looks lol)

how many damn threads are we gonna make about this... fuck!

lmao, took the words right out of my mouth

just let the thread die already.

took the words right out of my mouthIt must have been while...

I started using Netscape 8 with this site. It allows me to selectively turn off JavaScript (since some of the popups are caused by onClick('window.open(popupwindow)') style links, rather than regular unrequested.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Opera is giving away licenses for 24 hours, until midnight PDT. It usually costs $39 to get rid of the ads, I think.Go here (download.com) and click on the link, which will take you here (opera.com). I don't think you need to give them a real email address...they don't mail the keys (one each for a variety of OSes); they display them on another Web page.
