Ok I have been having this arguement with my friend for a while now. She's trying to lose weight by using slim fast. I say its ok to use for a while, but she'll probably end up putting the weight back on. She says as long as she has "a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, and a sensible dinner" the weight will stay off. I think it might be ok for now, but how nutritious is that over the course of several years? Two shakes and a light dinner everyday for the rest of your life? It just seems weird to me. So who is right?!

Slim Fast

My opinion is that generally all these products are a load of bollocks.
The only reason why they are there is to make money.
It's not that hard. All you have to do is eat less/eat better stuff and exercise more.
How hard is it. Seriously
There are no quick-fit solutions and if i were you i would tell your friend to save their money and just do the advice listed above and stick with it!!!

My opinion is also that its a waste of money, but that wasn't my question. And losing weight is harder than just "eat less/eat better stuff and exercise more"
But back to the subject...From a nutrutional standpoint, is it healthy to make slimfast a "lifestyle"?
-
Yes. We go walking on a trial every other day, and she joined a gym.

I've used it years ago to lose the "sympathy weight" I gained during my wifes first pregnancy. It works by giving you a full sensation so that you are not hungry during the day. I doubt it has much nutritional value so it helps reduce your overall caloric intake. There are better ways to reduce weight I'm sure but I doubt it's harmful for a period of time. But she wants to make this a permanent dietary lifestyle???
-
id like 2 see her try 2 keep this up for a long period of time. i bet it cant b done. ud get sick of haveing the same thing 2meals aday, every day.
-
Yes, she wants to make this her premanent lifestyle. I dont see how that can be good for her. She's been losing weight these past couple of months, and wants to continue using it indefinately. I guess its easier to drink 2 shakes than to count calories and pay attention to labels everyday. Thanks for answering my question.

Slim fast has given many people migraines that put them in the hospital.
-
ummm ok. Is that word of mouth or do u have a link or something?
-
I have lost weight by drinking slim fast.
After kid #2, I did it without exercising, and it worked. But then got pregnant, so the weight came back and then some-lol.
After kid #3, I had to exercise and drink slim fast to get the weight off.

its been to many years ago and I never cared so I dint pay that much attention but when I was a kid so uhhh 25 + years ago, fther ewas baseball coach who advertised that shit. Tommy Lasorda ??he really di dlose a shit load of wieght on it and I think I can remeber them advertsing the lifestyle. I cant say that its good or bad but it seems that if my memorey is correct (n otelling if thats right or not) ther should of been some research by now on the total outcome of living that way for extended periods of time. Id be looking for research on slim fast with long term effects and such, for i tto b around so long there HAS to be something on it doesnt there ?
-
Yea you would think since its been around for so many years there would be plenty of info on long term effects. I've been looking around google and cant really find anything. All I found is that it is effective for long term weight loss, but nothing on the other long term affects, if any exist.
