I recently masturbated a new female partner (I am male), and may have touched my face later that night (nostril). She is a new partner and says she has no diseases. A day later I got tired and was sick with a fever the next morning. All the symptoms I got afterwards match possible symptoms of the initial "acute HIV syndrome".The thing is, most sites say that these symptoms can only appear weeks or months after infection. I have also seen sites however that claim that symptoms can appear from a few days to weeks. Also, my immune system was weak at the time, as I had had little sleep due to work. What are your guys thoughts? It seems ridiculous, but it worries me to think about it. I mean what are the odds... really, that's my question: what are the odds?
Acute HIV - HOW LONG until symptoms???
welcome =)the best advice i can give you here hunni,is to make a trip to the doctors and get some tests done. to me, it seems a little early for symptoms, but then again, i am not a doctor. let us know how it goes.

I have had a blood test to find out why I got sick. The results are not yet in, but I did check off HIV for testing. In any case, HIV won't show itself until antibodies are built, 4-6 weeks down the road, after infection...
None of my symptoms were abnormal I don't think. They said low white blood cell count, but that's common I believe. No lymph node problems, but this is what I felt:
- Sore muscles
I am having my girlfriend tested ASAP, but I was hoping for some assurance from you guys in the meantime (i.e. tonight). i.e. so I can sleep...
I would be certain 99.9% you are worrting about nothingSounds like you caught a coldHIV has no notable symptoms GENERALLYAnd from the description of your sexual 'act' It fits in to a low risk categoryTrust me on thisIhave lost a few and know a few HIV/AIDS friendsIf you really want to be tested it may no show up, if at all till after 3 months

Well, I also fingered her before putting on the condom... and I fumbled with the condom for a while. What are the chances of this transmitting HIV? I feel so fucking stupid for not thinking of this at the time.
Only a few more hours till I test.. I won't be sleeping.
I think buzzie has put it very well.
We are ok. She turned up negative on the OraQuick. Relief... Thx all.
Get tested, but it seems kind of hard to get it that way, HIV isnt as EASY to get as some people think it is.
You're absolutely correct; there is still this unfortunately common belief among the general public that HIV/AIDS is something you can get just by LOOKING at an infected person. The blood/bodily fluids (vaginal secretions, semen) MUST have a fairly direct way into the blood stream (IE, tiny tears in the anus or vagina during sex, the tip of the penis [Urethra], open cuts/sores, bleeding gums) and it has to go quick, HIV lasts for less than a minute outside of the human body. The OP could have Frenched her till the cows came home, shared the same fork, etc etc and never catch it.
It is a rather hard way to catch it; really it is. The goal here is to help PREVENT treating people with AIDS as lepers. Yes people, you really can kiss a person with AIDS and not die from it, yes...you can hug a person with aids, or hold their hand; and yes, you really can use the same toilet 'they' use...and you won't die from that either.
Regardless, the symptoms don't show up days, weeks, or even months. The average period before symptoms arise from HIV is about 10 years in North America actually. HIV SLOWLY removes CD4 cells (your immune system) at a rate of about 50-100 CD4's a year (Out of 1000-1400)
