So I bought this wonderful dvd. Josh Ritter live concert. Bought it online and had it shipped from Dublin. My buddy had it and I saw a bit of it on another friend's laptop in a coffee shop. So I thought it would work ok and I paid big bucks for it. Got it and now I can't watch it cause of the whole region code dealy. Pffttt!!! Damned capitalist pigs! So, does anyone have or know where I can get my hands on the "hack" code for a Magnavox MWD7006 cd player, or for an HP pavilion xe4800 laptop?

Dvd codes

I don't, but I'll see if I can get in touch with my friend Asia (she's away at college in Japan at the moment so who knows when she'll check her inbox) and see if she may know them... she hacks into things all the time so I'm sure she'll know something that could be helpful to you. I'll shoot off an e-mail and see if she'll reply when she has the time

ok well there is not real hacks for a dvd player some at the back you have change the region code Usa is 1 (donno the rest) but some are only set to region 1 and cannot be changed what so ever. Go buy a region free Dvd player.. mine costed me $50 and i get movies from poland all the time and works fine.

have you tried VLC? it can play anything (almost)

I travel to China and Vietnam, and purchase DVD's from there; and of course they will not play in the US/Canada (Region 1); but you can download a program called "Power DVD" and that program will allow you to play any DVD on your Lap Top or computer. Also, you can purchase a portable DVD called "jWin" model number JD-VD740 (I have one) and it will play "all" DVD's from any region, check them out at http://www.world-import.com.

I don't think that Power DVD is region free, I just think that it has the ability to change the region of your DVD drive. I think so anyway, because I used it on my laptop to watch a Region 1 DVD and it made the change, then I went back to Region 2, then another Region 1 and so on and now it will no longer change back from Region 1. The DVD drives are usually encoded with a limit to how many times the Region can be changed. And this was on a HP Pavillion Z6000. I looked into fixing it online but apparently the drives that HP use are typically unhackable, or atleast nobody has tried successfully. And Damien, I did a look around the internet for a code for your DVD player, I couldn't find anything.

you european bastards! why cant you just conform to our american ways! how ruude! and to damien, from the sounds of it, you may have to look into buying another DVD player, considering i doubt you have a PS2,xbox,xbox 360 or PS3 but i dont know all the regional limitations to those, and with the xbox's atleast the first one you have to buy an attachment to buy DVD's so

I found the site http://www.dvdexploder.com that seems to be pretty reputable. For about 20 American clams you get an entire database of region code hacks, anti-spyware software, and other cool stuff. I was looking at a couple of techy message boards that gave this site good reviews for both their product and customer service. I may try them. I just hate paying $30 for a dvd and then having to pay another 20 to be able to watch it.Thanks for all your help though.

well glad to see it worked out, but 30 bucks just for a dvd? is it jewel encrusted or somethin?

I just realized...I do have a PS2. (And why, might I ask, would you doubt that?)Will it play any region? Or is there an easy hack for it?

well i didnt really figure you for the video game type we can usually smell our own, as to that im not really much or any of a hacker though it seems as if itd be easier , try this that mentions some program you can get to play any region dvd and somewhere in that mess might be a method to do it on your own but once again i dont know much about it so i didnt look through it but it is another thing to try so
