Heroin

I won't claim to be an expert on either, but from my understanding both have a very strong addiction, with permenant effects. Meth tends to hooks its addicts very, very quickly. The urge is incredibly strong, but once you break it is much easier to stay off the drug. However, when on ice your brain releases an insane amount of endorphines. To combat this unnatural release, your brain will permenantly close off your endorphine receptors. This means an (ex)addict cannot enjoy everyday things like the rest of us, during sex, or when laughing for example they do not release anywhere near the amount of endorphines we do, and require the drug to feel normal again. As for heroin, it grabs its user quite quickly too, and the initial addiction is very difficult to break. However, heroin addiction takes years of going to DAA meetings daily to completely shake, it is very easy to relapse.

I believe heroin addicts can appear to be normal. I have heard of people who work a regular job while under the influence. It's kind of contradictory because my impression is its such an intense drug that you would not be able to function at all. Apparently though that is not the case. I hope these people can seek help though.
