Ok so, im not really sure why im posting this but I feel like I need some sort of help or guidance in this situation ive been going through.I would call myself a pot head, I smoke pretty much every day and dont believe I could stop if I wanted to. And i've been thinking lately about personalities. You see, I think I have a small case of ocd where I have to think a certain way or i'll go crazy. Like, pretty much my whole life i've known the type of person I "want" to be but the person I am I just dont really feel content with. I have a small lisp and just dont exactly have an attractive voice so I kinda feel shy and embarressed to act the way I do so I get very quiet. And I know this sounds crazy, and maybe i've just been smoking a shit load of too much pot to get this whole other way of thinking in me but yeah. I guess im trying to figure out if its possible for people to change their personality, or if they're stuck the way they are. This is a really kinda complicating problem and I probably didnt make any since, but any help would be appreciated. I guess Im just really selt concious of myself and i'd like to change that, and if theres a way to get rid of a lisp? I dunno, but yeah thanks for anything.

Certain things can be changed, others can't. Your lisp? That can be changed with a Speech Therapist and a lot of hours practicing. Shyness? You can also improve that by practicing in front of a mirror as if you were delivering a speech. Also take a assertiveness class to help with being shy. Take a public speaking class, voice lessons, all that.
Being a pothead, you can change that too, but it sounds like that's not what you intend to do. You really have to want it, and have convinced yourself you don't want a pot filled life. Otherwise you'd only be fooling yourself and those around you. Only a handful of potheads who have ever lived have accomplished great things in life, so it definitely impairs your ability to achieve goals. So start with quitting pot, then move on to those other things I mentioned before, and you'll have that total personality makeover you are seeking.

Quote:I guess im trying to figure out if its possible for people to change their personality, or if they're stuck the way they are.I think a lot depends on what is meant by 'personality'.Some things that we think of as personality are really the way you comport yourself, and they can be changed fairly easily if you have enough commitment to changing them. For example, even if you are shy, you can act not shy. It takes practice and commitment, because it seems unnatural to you; but it gets easier, and if you act less shy, you will find you gradually become less shy. Some things, like the lisp, require professional help, but with a good professional and, again, commitment, they can indeed be changed. There are deep-down parts of your personality that can only be altered slowly; but many of them you won't want to, because they are part of who you are, and it is often more helpful to accept them.

I'm guessing the reason why potheads don't accomplish as much as Albert Einstein is because they're happy with what they have at the moment (and yes, most are probably to lazy to do anything else because they're high all the time). As long as you don't let pot control your life, you can still do whatever you want to do (to a certian degree of course).

thanks for the advice guys. So where would I exactly have to go to get rid of my lisp? And another thing I didnt mention...I talk REALLY fast all the time. I think thats my main problem. Until like a year ago I thought I was talking normal but nope, I talk extremely fast and people normally dont even understand what I say. If I try to talk slow I feel like I sound mental..I dunno. And im not sure about the quitting pot thing. I mean, I probably should but I dont really wanna quit and with that attitude it will near be impossible. But yeah, if I felt like I had a normal talking voice im sure..almost positive that I wouldnt be near as shy as I am.

For both the lisp and the rate of talking, the appropriate professional is a Speech Therapist.Don't worry that speaking more slowly doesn't sound right. The way you speak now sounds right to you, because it's what you're used to. If you change it, you'll be uncomfortable at first with how it sounds, until you get used to it. But you should have a speech therapist to guide the changes.
