Already! I sure hope the guy I found in my garden isn't an indicator of how this year is going to be with the snakes...I found a BEAUTIFUL, Five Lined Skink in my yard today, just a little hatchling. So I turned it loose in my garden (lord knows there are enough bugs in there for it to grow healthy!) so, I cruise back out to see if he is hanging out in the bed, and find a 2 button rattler instead. I really hope he didn't eat the skink He is in the fridge so the boy can see what they look like

EEEK! Rattlesnake season...
-
Dead.Though, as I age, I find it harder and harder to kill ANYTHING...even something that could kill my kid or dog...If the kids know what they look like, they can avoid them, the damn dog on the other hand...
-
If a rattler is around the house they get their head lopped off. Too risky.
-
Agreed!! Though, I found it more difficult this time. Since it was a youngster, I know there are more around, I sure hope they stay away from the yard though...
A few weeks ago, I found a gopher snake on my pantry shelf in the garage, wrapped around my grenadine of all things...He got to stay.
I just wish I would have had a picture, to an untrained eye they look like rattlers too. -
Yup.. a Gopher snake makes me jump until you look better.. I don't know if it's common with other snakes, but I noticed when you disturb a gopher snake they'll shake their tail just like a rattlesnake.
-
Don't tell Chance, we all know how much he hates them. giggles I thought that said Five Lined SKANK.
-
Awww I love lizards, even have a gecko tattoo on my arm... but snakes seriously creep me out! I get the shivers just thinking about them lol. Just evil looking creatues.

In this case, I couldn't see his head or his tail, until I called my man in, then of course, the gopher turned his head out...it was a good laugh.
But if it were a rattler I didn't wanna be figuring out how I was going to fling him out onto the floor and get him by myself... -
LMAO! at you and NOW Eddie too!!!And Eddie, I dig lizards and snakes both, just not the poisonous kind near my house. There are a couple of ponds near me, so wildlife abounds. When we camp, there are gardener (garter?) snakes all over the place, I have had my kids come back with 6 or 8 of em..stuffed just about everywhere..
-
No, no, garters are for Five Lined Skanks.
-
Thanks for the nice visual.I swear rabbits and squirrels have to be the most stupid animals when it comes to being on the road. Instead of staying safe on the side of the road, they'll run right in front of the car to get to their home on the other side.
-
I won't kill them if they are "anywhere" just when they are around my yard. If I saw one around my campsite I would get rid of it too.I love watching tree squirrels, but I HATE the f-ing ground squirrels around here! They are worse than gophers, they tear up the hill sides, and that washes out and collapses things. They are cute enough, just a pretty severe natural hazard around here if let to colonize like they do.They are around but no large colonies where I live.Yellow Jackets are the only thing I will go after with a vengeance (like I don't care where, or how or why, they must die!!!!)...The rest of the animals or bugs are more of a safety/personal space issue. I hate roaches, who doesn't, but there are "wild" ones that live out in the feilds here, and I leave them there, but get near my house!!!( Though they don't get invasive, they like their outside home)
-
Ewww! eeek, i can't even stand the snakes here in canada! Id shit myself seeing a rattler
-
You would hate it here..lolThere are lots of creepy crawlies!!!Three of which I know are poisonous, Rattlers, Black Widows, and Brown Recluses. The Recluse being my bigger fear. Then there is the larger wild life, wild boars being my bigger fear, even compaired to the Mountain Lions.I went to bed last night, and there were 3 spiders around the top of my wall, playing tag or something...I could barely fall asleep, the Wolf Spiders here look like a mouse running when the light is dim. (They are big enough that when you get one in a jar, you can see their fangs, and count all their eyes!)
-
I was bitten on my inner arm by a Black Widow when I was a teen.. Hurt really bad.
-
Black Widows will make you pretty sick, but usually not fatal. Well, Brown Recluses aren't usually fatal either, but it will rot out flesh...seems worse to me! I think the biggest risk of death is the infection, I hear it is very painful too.
-
What are Brown Recluse doing way up in No Cal? Hope they don't make it up here to Washington. :frowning:
-
LOL, it is the warm dryish climate here. It gets too cold for them about an hour north of me in the mountains.
