Because i quit my summer job? Okay i've been working at a Starbucks since like May, i get paid $10 per hour. So i was at a Ralph Lauren store, and i just asked out of curiosity if they need more people, and they said yeah, so i decided to apply, i mean they pay $12 an hour. A few days later i got the job and i thought about it and decided to quit my old job, without the consent of my parents. And now that i told them i quit and got a new job they were all pissed at me, saying how i always find the easy way out of everything, how life isn't always going to be like this, how im never going to learn responsibility or whatever. I don't get it though, i was given a better opportunity, and i took it, i thought they were going to be proud or something, but no instead they give me a lecture. I really don't get it.

Why are my parents so uptight?

I don't know why they were freaking out about the job thing. But I know from experience that my mom doesn't like it when I do things despite how little and unnecessary they are without her consent. It's almost like... taking away their authority or their voice, you know. They want to be a part of what you're doing. If you just do it without getting they're opinion that gets to them I guess.

Once upon a time, loyalty to an employer meant a lot. If you stayed loyal to your employer, you would gradually get promoted and do well. Moving from one place to another showed fecklessness and disloyalty.
But times have changed. Often now, if you stay at the same place you'll stay near the bottom, while people from outside (often total incompetents with management degrees) get the higher positions. Moving is expected, and considered desirable as a way of getting wider experience.
I wouldn't change jobs after six weeks too often, but I think times have changed.

These are just summer jobs though, i mean im only 16 lol. Do people actually care that teens jump from job to job i mean everyone knows teens do that since all we look for is some good cash. And wait how does a job that pays $10 pay more than a job that pays $12? I actually don't really get payed $10, i get payed $9 plus like a $10 tip, which barely makes it $10 per hour.

Okay i might get paid a few less dollars but its so much easier. At Starbucks it was harder and i didn't like it. You have to do things quick and can't mess up, your working in a stressful environment, and i just hate working under pressure because i have a short temper and i get pissed off for everything and i rather not work under stress. I know your probably going to say, "i have to learn, everything in life isn't easy, etc." but im young i really don't need this yet.
I didn't tell my parents because i just really wanted to get out of there, and i thought they would be proud or whatever because i moved up to a better job.
I guess they didn't like the fact of me quitting because they knew Starbucks was a challenge and i guess they rather me work there than work at a place wheres its more calm and easy and get paid more. Or maybe they just liked the free coffee lol.

Thanks, my parents aren't really mad at me anymore since it's been a few days now. But they were annoyed when i told them i quit.
