Presidential debates at 9 pm ET
-
I won't! I need to remember to take notes on them.
-
Ugh, I hate them.
-
IMO, President Bush is getting his @ss handed to him in the debate right now.
-
LMAO.. Yes he is. Does he know who were fighting? In the beginning he said were after Saddam! LMAO... Its getting boring now
-
Well, he said we were after Saddam and then Kerry naturally asked why we're after Saddam when 9/11 was conducted by Bin Laden. The reason I say Bush is getting his @ss handed to him is because all of his rebuttals are repetitive. He keeps saying crap like 'a leader shouldn't say that' or 'a leader shouldn't say we're in the wrong position even if we are because it sends the wrong message. Sure, it's bad to be pessimistic, but you can't be optimistic and ignore problems.
-
That's true. On the other hand, he's proven in the past that repeating a message can have a strong impact on the public. In particular, the "flip-flop" message (highlighted repeatedly) has resonated with likely voters. He stressed that point repeatedly in the debates, and I'm not sure that Kerry properly defended himself on that point. The rebuttal that he attempted to make--that he voted for a different strategy than Bush executed--was a good point, but he didn't make it strong enough.Honestly, I was disappointed in the "debate" as a whole. It was anything but a debate. It was a series of cookie-cutter questions and cookie-cutter answers. Although the candidates didn't "know" the questions ahead of time, they were made in such a general manner that almost any answer would suffice--giving both candidates the opportunity to regurgitate memorized messages. I think we need to seriously change the debate format--it's pathetic, and it gives the American people almost no meaningful knowledge about the candidates.

I stopped listening halfway through. Did they debate over anything beyond foreign policy and national security?
John Kerry seemed to present himself a lot better than Bush did. I was listening to some critics on the radio and they said something like 'John Kerry had more style points while President Bush was very repetitive to stress his points' I can see how the common viewer would be more into Kerry since his responses and answers were more interesting and versatile.
Sometimes, I think I should run for President. lmao.
-
Actually, the whole point of this debate was foreign policy. Later debates explore additional topics.
-
I see. I'll take that as a no. What is the subject of the next debate?
-
I read somewhere the second debate will be like a town meeting, where people will ask questions to the candidates. The 3rd, I believe, will be like the first and focus mainly on foreign policy.I hear this John Kerry "flip flop" thing over and over from people, but I never truly got the story behind it. What happened?
-
I think they're referring to Kerry's decision to support going into Iraq in the beginning and now him saying that it was a mistake.
-
well if you think back Bush did the same thing. He went from focussing on terrorism to Weapons of Mass Destruction, but simply put we have pretty lame canindates this election year.
-
In reply to: but simply put we have pretty lame canindates this election year. Agreed.
-
-
lol, yeah I remember that.
-
lmao, I can actually imagine that.
