Hello,I don't plan on having sex for a while (I am 16 years of age), but would still like to know how it is possible to get STDs? I am unsure how they are transferred or "made." I mean, what if both you and the partner are clean, but say you then have sex with someone else months later? I mean, I hope I will have only one partner, but if it came to that, I would want to know I was clean. I would use a condom in both situations unless I was ready to settle down. I was thinking about trying different kinds of sex, but didn't want to risk STDs. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, jluvl

How Can You Get An STD?

STDs aren't made by sex, they are transferred from one person to another by sex. Usually it is through fluids, and condoms provide considerable protection, but, as no1sexpot said, not 100%. Sometimes skin-to-skin contact is all that is needed for transfer. In particular, it is quite possible to transfer genital warts even with a condom on.If your partners are free of disease, you can't get anything either. Unfortunately, sometimes people don't tell the truth, and sometimes they can be carriers but not have any symptoms.

you can also get herpes if your partner has oral herpes and goes down on you. herpes on the mouth (HSV1 or "cold sores") can be spread to the genitals. conversely, genital herpes (HSV2) can be gotten on the mouth in the same way.
A great website for info:
if you already have HSV1, ie, you get the occassional mouth sore, you have some measure of protection against getting HSV1 or HSV2 on your genitals, since the antibodies are already in your system.
