What are the dangers of douching? I've heard it's not good. But, since losing my virginity about 2 years ago, and being with the same person those years, I've started to notice a smell. It's not always pleasant and sometimes "takes away from the mood." I'm not sure what to do and I'm very embarassed. My boyfriend tries to tell me not to worry cuz I can't do anything about it, but I know he doesn't like it. I used to have no odor whatsoever. What can I do that won't cause infection?

Douching or not

I honestly can't say much about douching as I don't know enough about it (other than it's not advisable - which you've already worked out). However (though you may have tried) I'd suggest some type of feminine wash or cleanser (for external use) for that specific purpose, and other one would be to wear cotton underwear. I'd always recommend against man made fibres, they hold in moisture, and this alone can cause smells.I hope that helps, but other than that I wouldn't worry too much. Your guy understands that it's normal, and it's most likely not a turn off for him at all, although it may turn you off. Our minds (I'm male) do work differently, what you think may be offputting (as it is for you) may be turning him on.

Thank you for your reply. He has mentioned it before that it is bad, though...in the nicest way possible of course. Yes, it doesn't help my insecurity, but he's trying to help me out. I will try out those feminine cleansers. Thanks

ok no one call ne stupid please, but wut is douching?

Douching is cleaning out the vagina which involes inserting a thin tube into the vagina and squirting a cleaning solution.Midnight... Have you been to a gynecologist since you have been having sex? If not, you should. It is recommended that females have regular gyn. visits when they turn 18 or when they become sexually active (whichever comes first). You need to rule out any other causes of this odor.

oh.. ok. thanks

I have heard by the last three or four nurses &/or doctors that douching is NEVER EVER good for you. It pushes bad bacteria and germs up into your vagina which can give you some mad infections, such as a yeast infection, bacterial vaginitis, or a urinary tract infection.... Best thing to do is just wash with a mild soap and water. If you have a bad odor even after washing, you probably all ready have an infection and will need some antibiotics or an anti-fungal medication.
