I don't know if its just me or what but I cannot seem to lose weight and become healthier and more fit. I've tried pilates, cardio exercises, weight training, and a few diets but it seems like the padded fat I have around my middle (mainly obliques, abs, and back) just doesn't want to go away. Anyone have any suggestions?

Seems like I'm getting nowhere.

Reduce your dinner to mere morsels until you can eventually go without eating dinner. If you do eat dinner, do it before 7:00pm and do not snack in between meals.Resistance training and ab work will help you too, but you have to give it time. Don't expect it to be an overnight thing....

I eat dinner at 5:30 pm, and I'm not going to starve myself if that is what you are trying to say. I do 3 days of cardio (30 min minimum running) and 2 days of strength/pilates depending on which I want to do. I've been on a diet and doing these exercises for 4 1/2 weeks already, so I have a little bit of knowledge that its not going to happen overnight, I'm not that naive. But I don't understand how not eating between meals and not eating dinner can possibly help me. Starving yourself lowers your metabolism so it makes no sense to not eat, as long as it is in small portions and not all at once large portions...

I would increase my workout times to 3 days a week, about 2 hours a day... maybe less since you're a beginner. Although I lost 40 lbs by going straight into 3 days, 2 hours a day per week and ate whatever I wanted. I don't really like doing diets, but I think it's important to drink a lot of water or liquid without caffeine and eating right.

What websex says is true. Caffeine is very bad for you. Also, excess weight comes from water retention as well as just fat. If you're not drinking enough water, your body will start to retain it. When you start drink enough water, however, you will convince your body that it's okay to release the retained water.
At 4 1/2 weeks I would consider starting to vary your workouts and the intensity in which you workout. Instead of running try Tae Bo. I'm starting step dancing lessons in a few weeks. So that'll be fun...for me. So try something that you think would be fun that involves physical activity and gets your heart rate up (no one said exercise had to be dull). Also, instead of 2 days a week strength training, try 3 or 4 split routine. You work a fewer body parts but you can concentrate solely on them.

You didn't say how old you are or went into too much of what your lifestyle is like ...but I too got tired of my mid-section belly. My doctor put me on this diet called the South Beach Diet. I lost 24 pounds in the first 4 weeks in the phase 1 part of the diet and 15 more so far in phase 2 but the diet is a lifestyle change of eating habits. not just a diet. You have to change the way you eat for the rest of your life in order to keep the weight off..... But it works and I'm doing it. Pick up a copy of the book by Dr Arthur Agatston MD It's called "The South Beach Diet" or look on the Internet. Good Luck. It has worked for me so far. I've only been doing it for 9 weeks so far.
