I started a new job yesterday and I love what I'm doing, however it doesn't pay that well. The same day I start my new job I get an offer from a great company that pays about $10,000 more a year than the job I just started and is about 1 mile away from my home. Some people told me to quit the job I'm at and take the other job. I guess I don't think it's right to just quit after 1 or 2 days, and plus I really like what I'm doing and health insurance is completely paid for...I don't have to pay any premiums. This whole situation is really killing me though. I keep thinking of what might have been. I denied the other position because I already started a new job, but this is haunting me. I just needed to get this off my chest I guess

Just a little depressed right now

But then again it's better to quit now before they invest a lot of time and effort in your training. It really sucks when you train someone and then after a period of time, they up and leave for various reasons.

Well I already denied the other position this morning, so what's done is done. It's still hard though.

You probably would have hated the other job, so you made the best choice. Money is nice but it isn't everything.

When I read your post I was going to say what sdp said...but he already said it. But to reiterate some of what he said, other than the salary, you don't really know that the other job would have been so great. Also, you might have a good chance to advance in this job and get a better salary, or you might get better experience in some important area. I doubt that you would be in either job for a very long time anyway...you're pretty early in your career. The important thing now is to start building a network of contacts, which will be a great help next time you're in the job market.I'm a bit of an obsessor about such things, so I know where you're coming from.

Thanks everyone...you all have made me feel better.

My opinion is that when you're making decisions about jobs and career, you should do what's best for YOU. Don't worry about the companies. They'll be alright.I hope your new job turns out to be a great one.

I've known a number of people who have quit immediately for the second offer. It's instant bridge burning and they tend to get reputations as unstable. Reputation is everything and perception is reality. You did the right thing.
