I think they are somewhat correct in as much as avoidance of masturbation may lead to unnecessary mental/sexual frustration. Like anything as long as it doesn't rule your life, a satisfying act as long as it's not detrimental to ones health is therefore indeed healthy.

Is Masturbation Really A Healthy Act
-
Here's a piece of an article from Men's Health."We are programmed, as best we know, to need orgasms," says Gloria Brame, Ph.D., a clinical sexologist in Athens, Ga. "It's a fundamental aspect of men's health, right up there with brushing your teeth." And the more you know about what satisfies you solo, the more pleasure you get from sex. You likely know that a little wanking won't make you go blind or cause your penis to fall off. (Let's face it, you'd know by now.) In fact, a little time alone is perfectly healthy for you. "It relieves stress and keeps everything about your body—your heart rate, blood pressure, reproductive system, brain chemistry—in very good shape," Brame says. A 2003 Australian study found that men who ejaculated more than five times a week were a third less likely to develop prostate cancer. Regularly flushing your system, so to speak, keeps your semen healthy and prevents the build up of cancer-causing chemicals. "Men are doing themselves a favor with regular ejaculation," Brame says. "It cleans out the plumbing." The researchers say sexual intercourse doesn't provide the same benefit because it puts you at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection. Masturbation also helps combat premature ejaculation. If you can train yourself to last longer solo, you'll last longer with her...............................................Oh, and the entire time i was reading your weblink about stopping the mental disease of masturbation, i was masturbating... it felt good too...

Every night when I kneel down by my bed and say my prayers, I thank God for giving me the gift of masturbation. Early on, I did feel very guilty and ashamed, and worried I would harm myself by wasting my sperm. But a lot of reading helped me to understand the whole thing much better. I now honestly think, despite what some churches still teach, that God wants us to enjoy our bodies in this way. Think of it this way:Who designed masturbation? And who designed sleeping pills, anxiety pills, antidepression pills, etc.?I think God gave us guys (girls too) a terrific built-in way to help ourselves RELAX. And its free and doesn't require a perscription!

Personally I think its an incredibly healthy act, and is also very enjoyable! Its one of lifes great pleasures and is something which shouldn't be frowned upon! (Unless its in public lol) :P
-
well what about its effect on the minds of the actors. Now some one said it is isnt right to do it in the public and my feeling is that anyting that is not worth doing outside is not worth doing at all. It is actually a practice that has a lot to do with the mind. Now let us look at it this way. The mind of the actors is torn between enjoying the act and also doing it in the private where nobody will see you. There is therefore a sryggle in the mind which can have long term effect especially when teenagers are involved.
There is so much more that this act can cause to the actors.
-
That does hold up, sorry. What about going to the bathroom, is that not an act that we should do in private? Or should we start urinating and defecating out in public where everyone can watch? Also, most of us, shower and dress in private. Should we also be showering outside where everyone can watch? What about sex, should this also no be a private event? Should we start having sex on the front lawns so all our neighbors can watch? I think not; to all of the above.
Point is its okay to do certain things in private; everyone is entitled to privacy. Just being you are going it in private doesn't mean its a shameful act it just simply means its private.

Maybe you can help the discussion along by telling us what long term effects you think masturbation has. It might be easier to address those things specifically than just trying to answer the question "is masturbation healthy"?By the way, what country are you from?

I enjoy it. There's nothing better than starting the day with squirting out a load before the shower!!
-
Actors, what actors? Is this a metaphor thats lost on me?
You can enjoy it in private without it being wrong.
If it indeed was God who created us, then he had a reason for all our parts. Including that masturbation is pleasurable. He didn't make it feel good so that we had to ignore the pleasure! We can experience it and be happy!

But I don't think this reasoning stands up. If it feels good, it's right? I can think of about a kabillions scenarios where you probably wouldn't think that's the case.

God's intention was that it should be between two legally married people. I believe doing it with yourself show disrespect for Gods arrangement and also your inability to control your sex urge. People who cant do this may not be able to stop themselves from commiting some other crimes that the society fumes at.I also believe that people who are into this (especially teenagers) usually sufferes from low self esteem. These are are views.

If by "it" you mean partner sex, then okay. If by "it" you mean masturbation, there's no evidence anywhere in the Bible for that belief. Quote:I believe doing it with yourself show disrespect for Gods arrangementhow? Quote:and also your inability to control your sex urge. That doesn't really make sense. I know folks who have an inability to control their sexual urges who never masturbate. They just have sex with anyone they can get. Is that preferable to you? Masturbation can be done in a controlled manner just as intercourse can. Quote:People who cant do this may not be able to stop themselves from commiting some other crimes that the society fumes at.Seriously?!? You're considering masturbation a crime that society fumes at? And you honestly believe that someone who has a hard time controlling masturbation is more likely to commit a crime? That's just whacked. Have you just time-traveled here from the 18th century? Quote:I also believe that people who are into this (especially teenagers) usually sufferes from low self esteem. These are are views. This discussion that you enjoy will get nowhere if you continue to pull statements out of your but. I doubt you can offer any real evidence for this belief.

hello actually i am not selling it to you. I am only selling to those who can be patient enough to look at issues from other people's point of views. Sometimes the way you have viewed an issue may not be what it is actually is.
Now if the other guy says the Bible did not talk about masturbation. I want to ask him if he can instruct his 5 year old son to masturbate. If you cant be bold to ask your 5 year old son or daughter to do it, then dont you think, you have to look at the way others who are not doing it see it.

Absolutely. I have total respect for your belief that masturbation is a sin. I don't agree, but I respect it. It's a view held by many. What I don't have respect for is your lack of reasoning, your twisting things to support an unsupportable case, your claiming that things are in the Bible that just aren't, and your adding to a dangerous belief that has hurt many. And, to be honest, I have to ask if you're actually here to learn.Quote:

Report what? That I disagreed with you and challenged you? Did you think you could log on, state your claims and beliefs, and not be challenged? I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. I invite you to share your concerns with the mods here. I think you'll find them very fair and possibly instructive.Quote:

Which it clearly doesn't...Quote:

First of all, what does this have to do with the question of whether or not the Bible talks about masturbation? I don't mind having a respectful discussion with you, but it will help if you will stick to the question and not use this kind of pointless diversion.
Secondly, I actually don't have a 5 year old son, or any son for that matter, but if I did...well it's just a stupid question. 5 year old boys haven't even begun the process of sexual maturation. Masturbation isn't even an issue with them.Quote:
If you cant be bold to ask your 5 year old son or daughter to do it, then dont you think, you have to look at the way others who are not doing it see it.
I'm really trying to figure out what you're trying to say. Let's substitute 13 year old boy for your 5 year old, cause that makes a whole lot more sense. Are you suggesting that if I'm going to say masturbation is not wrong then I should be willing to actually ask my son to masturbate? That's quite the irrational leap. No I wouldn't ask him to masturbate or mandate it. That's his choice. He may actually choose not to. But if he chooses to do so (which he probably will. Y'know, since he's a 13 year old boy with a penis) I would be willing to talk to him about it, let him know it's normal, and talk about the issues that do concern me (lust, obsession, addiction, pornography, sexual activity with someone else, etc.)I'm really trying to find the logic behind your muddled arguments, but I just don't see it. Maybe you can help me out. Explain to me what I'm missing.

damien, very well put! (Looks like it's time to close this topic. This person is not taking it anywhere that's productive.)
