Sorry, but I've gotten into this phase of self-discovery and developing my own philosophy lately. It's always bothered me that in a lot of less developed countries people hate anyone who is different from them. I know that in some areas it's because of their religion, but I don't see why people can't see that some of the things they do to people is just wrong, like in Middle Eastern areas where they stone women who have sex. What is the purpose of that? I am appalled that in a lot of places like that, people kill each other every day for irrational beliefs. You would think that people would take one minute to think and realize that it is wrong. It's everywhere and even here in America where punishment isn't as severe. I just don't understand it. Does anyone have any ideas as to why people are like this or why they do it?

What's With the Hate?
-
Well see, but who are we to judge others. I agree that it is wrong to do that, but in their belief system it is okay. That is the conundrum of human society...we are different.
-
Let's rip out some 19th Century theories on societal development, eh? The Stadial theory believes a society's morals, beliefs, etc. depend on its mode of subsistence. In commercial societies (which all western societies are) it is believed our morals have developed further, due to our more advanced commercial and political structures.Well enough with the 19th century rhetoric... Go back 100-200 years in western countries and many of the same things happening in the lesser developed societies of today. Not exactly the same of course, but similar.
-
they kill eachother and blow themselves up and kidnap American citiznes and chop their heads off, you're right who are we to judge.
-
Yea and your soldiers just stride on into iraqi family's houses, shooting out the locks, massacring the family then blame it on "crossfire".Sometimes you have to wonder why all these terrorists are so pissed off?
-
yes they kill the whole family! What the hell are you talking about.
-
That story has been on the news a lot recently. It's the pot calling the kettle black.
-
yeah the liberal driven news that wants to turn everyone againts the war.
-
What's wrong with reporting? Do you think we should suppress the media? Wouldn't that turn you into the very "evil" you are supposedly fighting?
-
the news just operates on showing you negative things, they never show you engineers building homes or parks do you? No you don't. And our soldiers hands are so tied these days that the might as well be going out there in regular clothes and no guns.
-
Actually I do see reconstruction efforts on the news. The thing is, if you invade a country, it's your duty to help rebuild it. And by "tied hands" you mean not being able to slaughter civilians, then yes, perhaps they should be going in with plain clothes and no guns.
I'm actually pro the reasons for the war, but anti the war. Getting rid of Saddam, big thumbs up. But unfortunately it's only going to fuel the fire of terrorism.
If America had managed to moderate its oil addiction and stayed out of the Middle East, they wouldn't have had planes flying into their buildings.
-
they would hate us if we liked oil either way, the only way to take care of terrorism is to kill the bad guys. but im done with this thread, have fun with it!
-
That has to be the most ignorant post I've ever seen. People in the Middle East never gave a shit about America until it started messing around with their countries. Also, "killing bad guys", is just going to make more "bad guys". What's your solution, kill them all?
-
eh
-
Eh indeed.
-
I am no religious person, but I believe we cannot judge unless we know each of the people included, just basing if off of actions we see on tv...
-
the problem with fundamentalists and radicals is that they believe that they are absolutely right. The rest of us moderates will always have some self doubt.
-
no im not done yet, yes kill them all
-
Hate breeds hate. Someone has to stop the cycle...
-
who do you think will the terrorists. fight fire with fire.
