It's a tough job but someone has to do it.
But seriously, I'm not afraid to confront bullies, here or in real life -- as long as they're not packing deadly weapons.

I think Helms arms can be considered deadly weapons. LOL You can confront all you want, but it probably won't change the opinion of the person. I'd probably shock you with my opinions. I just don't put it in the forum.
Yeah, but he's not "in real life". And for all I know, that avatar picture is something he found on a gay bodybuilding site.
Consider this... [some American politicians are perverts and suspected murderers]The hypocrisy is quite amazing, though. The Islamic world doesn't seem to be very concerned about the genocide against darker-skinned Muslems in North Africa, but many have a fit over a cartoon printed in a European newspaper. Adultery and promiscuity are not a problem, as long as you get a sex-act-long marriage, and then a divorce. You can do it over and over, and still stay in good standing with Mohammad, apparently. And although many in the Islamic world seem to have a problem with the Saudi government, there is little heard about how women are one peg below yesterday's trash in their scheme. The camel gets to ride in the front seat; the women stay in the back. And we won't even talk about the comparison between blowing yourself and taking a lot of civillians with you, as opposed to sending perverted IMs to 16-year-olds.
hey, I wasn't defending the actions of radical extreamists. Just, once again, floating an idea about how the world sees America vs. how America sees it's self. You mention Africa. What's hapening there is worse than a letcherous senator but I'm sure the people there would love to hear this news story too.
is there any point in saying that I found Helm's suggestion that there is some kind of connection between peter puffers and child molestors disturbing, offensive and inapropriate?
I know...everyone hates everyone else, as long as it's expedient. The human condition is a messed up thing. The attitude toward otherwise-radical young Indonesians toward East Timor, before it went its own way, was telling. ("It's ours!")
I suppose there's that small chance that you may change him, but instead the reaction is likely to be one of perceived persecution. So, I guess not.
If a mod or admin or any poster says something you find offensive, you (or any poster) are entitled to express objections to the term, and to the thought behind it. Then the effect of the offensive term is counteracted and readers are alerted to think for themselves.Good point BUT I have expressed this more than a few times how offensive his terms for homosexuals are. He can never just use the term homosexual or gays; it always has to be some other derogatory term to describe them. Sorry but it does make us other Mods look bad and there’s a point, as Steve said, that you grow up and act your true age instead of your shoe size. It’s almost setting the floor to the other members that it’s okay to bash homosexuals when they seen a Mod doing it.> (sdp) I think Helms arms can be considered deadly weapons. LOLWhy? Sorry but I have, unfortunately, seen other pictures of Helm and well… not impressed. People have such a strong sense that Helms is this muscle man and well, sorry from the pictures I have seen he’s not. Not saying he might not have some knowledge about working out and etc, but he’s far from anyone I would say is in great physical shape. My ex who only works out 1-2 times a week (If that) is in better shape than Helms that claims he works out all the time… certainly makes you wonder.
While I do find Helms' sayings towards homosexuals derogatory and offensive, I'm not going to waste my time arguing with him about it. Hell, there were people here who said worse things about blacks (White_Lines, for example), and I ignored it. If someone is stuck in their ways, your arguments on message boards isn't going to change their opinions. The only way they can change is through themselves, not from repetitive posting. While I agree with your opinions on this, I honestly don't think it's worth the endless debates you like to make out of everything. And to sdp, yes I do disagree with some of your "shocking" views (at least the ones you've expressed on here), but I still love you
Whatever Eddie.
Whatever Pete... okay??? Lost
How about you stop trying to offend people and the "offending" will stop. You talk about other people causing drama on the boards and you are so ready to ban people yet you yourself are nothing more than a bully who thinks his shit don't stink. If anyone on the board needs to have more respect for others it's you. Your whole idea that “I don’t have to watch what I say, It’s your fault you get offended” it total crap.Trust me you don't offend me that often anymore, I realize everything that comes out of your mouth is BS anyways and not worth a damn penny. But I will say you need to get off your high horse because you certainly have no reason to be saddled.
I also find it weird that people get offended by things that are said on an Internet forum. A lot of people have said some fucked up shit about black women and affirmative action, but I didn't feel the need to come in on my high horse and "debate" until my fingers fell off. It really isn't worth the trouble.
You don't have to be offended to debate. Sometimes it's just the point of someone acting ignorant and rude all the time that gives way to people saying something, this case in point. As I told sdp in PM, I'm okay with people not agreeing with my "lifestyle" (I use quotes because in reality it's not a lifestyle but it's how people class it) but when they decide to bash it that I'll be there to defend it. sdp I respect because though I know he doesn’t approve of the "lifestyle" he doesn't push that on other people and he lets us live our lives as we see fit without him trying to push his beliefs on us. If those who don’t approve of our “lifestyle” acted more like sdp, things would be a hell of a lot better.
I can agree with that I just don't see the point of endless debating. But, to each his own, I guess.
i wish more people had your attitude towards things. your so easy going!!!
HA, I can just imagine the steam shooting out of their cartoon heads as they furiously bang away on their keyboards thinking that they're really letting me "have it" this time! ...so much wasted energy, 'tis a pity, it is.Which gives way to you think you shit doesn’t stink. If you took the time to hear people out about how you treat other people, imagine the difference. But the problem is you don’t want to hear anything constructive because you already think you’re perfect, which sorry no ones perfect.>But hey, I'm an easy target.Because of how you treat people. People who are rude and pompous ARE easy targets.> i wish more people had your attitude towards things. your so easy going!!!I used to think the same thing about Helms until I learned it wasn’t that he was easy going it was the fact he thinks he better than everyone else. He even told another Mod and I that he was better than her and I because he has a boat and makes “a lot of money”. To me just shows his true character when he makes statements as foolish as that.
It’s almost setting the floor to the other members that it’s okay to bash homosexuals when they seen a Mod doing it.That's what I'm trying to say. The mods are supposed to play the role of the adults. They set the standard, to a fair degree. When they act like children, it's like the inmates are running the assylum.CBW> Hell, there were people here who said worse things about blacks (White_Lines, for example), and I ignored it.White_lines is not a moderator! There's a big difference. It's like having some guy in the street mug you versus having a cop mug you. If you're saying that what HelmsmaN says carries the same weight as what white_lines says, then you have seriously insulted your colleague.HelsmaN> What I find amusing is the energy that some people put in to the conscious decision to be "offended" by some particular phrase, manner of expression, dress or anything else some other person does or says. This is where the bully tries to turn the tables. Next you'll be telling us that we should feel bad for you because people are being so mean.Words have the power to injure, or start wars. The only things that are posted on this site, besides the occasional link to pictures, are words. Some people get banned for the words they use, so don't give me that nonsense, justifying your crappy behavior. Just be happy that your leadership is so feckless...but not completely, if you'll recall your demotion.CBW> I also find it weird that people get offended by things that are said on an Internet forum.By a moderator? How better can I spell it out? If some random poster calls you by a racist term, is it really the same thing as if a moderator does? Yes, you guys are held to a higher standard. I hope I don't have to spell out why.> I just don't see the point of endless debating. But, to each his own, I guess. This thread keeps getting posted to, including several from you. I guess some people are interested in the endless debate, or it would stop. It takes more than one person.> I just skim right on past, because I have no interest in what they have to "say".Clearly so. A child understands that he's the only important thing in the universe.> i wish more people had your attitude towards things. your so easy going!I assure you that that's an illusion. HelmsmaN is a terribly insecure man. He wants everyone to know how big and bulky he is. He doesn't mind that everyone thinks that he authors the articles he copies and pastes on this site. He needs to find himself and appreciate the person he is. I'm not sure that a person in that place is the best candidate for moderator (much less administrator).
You shouldn't care about my approval, although the fact that you keep replying the way you do is revealing. You should care about yourself, and why you are expressing such a deep insecurity. You should also remember that you do, in some way, serve as a role model.I don't see how making fun of homosexuals makes you a better person. I don't think a gay man appreciates the pedophile jokes any more than an Arab appreciates towelhead jokes.
