To a problem that's been plaguing me for years!Since I was in my early-mid 20's I've had an ongoing pain in my balls. There was no swelling, just a pain that came and went. I had to wear boxers because anything else hurt. I could wear boxer-briefs as long as they weren't too tight. Anything tight on the old boys causes pain. Anyway, I put up with the pain for years. Finally, about 3 years ago, I made an appt. with the doc to check it out. When the day came, the doc had an emergency so I had to see the nurse practitioner. She checked them out rather quickly, declared there was nothing wrong, and told me to take some aspirin. Not real helpful. So I continued to live with it.Yesterday, I had to see the doc to get some meds refilled. He's a new doctor in the area. Young and pretty cool. So I took the plunge and asked him about it. He put on his gloves and I dropped my drawers. He fiddled with things a bit, did the cough test, and said "You definitely have a hernia". That simple and that easy to find. Why couldn't that lady have figured it out 3 years ago. Was she that uncomfortable seeing my tallywhacker?!?Anyway, now I know. The doc explained things to me and I asked a couple of questions. He said that surgery was an option and offered to set me up with a surgical consult. He also said, if it didn't bother me that much, I could just live with it. I told him I would pass on the surgeon for now. But now, after having some pain last night, I'm considering doing it. I have to check on the costs, what insurance will cover, off-work time and all that. But I might just do it.It would be really cool to not have that pain after all these years. It would be really cool to wear whatever pants and underwear I want without worrying about pain.Anyway, I'm mostly just really happy to finally know.

Just knowing the answer makes it easier to live with until you decide to have it repaired.

Good news, damien, and I agree with readytogo that just having a diagnosis is a relief.I'd suggest the operation, rather than living for decades with discomfort.

well its good to finally know. i had a scare like that awhile back, had that same kind of pain so i went to the doc and he said i might have a hernia and told me the same things if i do but to come back in a few weeks. i did and everything was fine. the possibility of a surgery to the groin scared the hell out of me though.
