Following is what Rush Limbaugh had to say about our new President when he was on the Shawn Hanity show:I would hope he would succeed if he acts like Reagan, but if he's going to do FDR, if he's going to do the new, new deal all over which we will call here the raw deal, why would I want him to succeed?Look, he's my president. The fact that he is historic is irrelevant to me now. It matters not at all. I — if he is going to implement a far left — look it. I think it's already decided. $2 trillion in stimulus? The growth of government. I think the intent here is to create as many dependant Americans as possible looking to government for their hope and salvation. If he gets nationalized health care, I mean, it's over, Sean. We're never going to roll that back. That's the end of America as we have known it because that's then going to set the stage for everything being government owned, operated, or provided. Why would I want that to succeed? I don't believe in that. I know that's not how this country is going to be great in the future, it's not what made this country great. So I shamelessly say, no, I want him to fail, if his agenda is a far-left collectivism, some people say socialism, as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed? The tag line on the news is that this comment by Rush demonstrates that he puts partisanship above the welfare and success of the United States. And further, that making such a comment at a time when millions of people are losing their homes and unable to find work is inhumane. Personally I never thought there was any question about his lack of concern for the country as a whole, regardless of what he really meant here. I always felt that as long as it would make him a buck he would have no problem selling the U.S. out. But at the risk of hopefully starting a war here what are your thoughts. I'm particularly interested in our conservative posters thoughts.

Taken out of context or unpatriotic
-
Thats not unpatriotic atall. It is completely reasonable to want a politician, who stands entirely opposed to your beliefs, to fail. Rush wants Obama to fail in his goal of instituting European style leftist statism in the USA, something which to a man of Rush's position would constitute "selling the U.S out". That doesnt mean he wants the country to fail, just the agenda of its leader to not succeed. Its no different to Democrats wanting George Bush to fail. That is not the same thing as wishing the country ill, but they wanted Bush to fail in implementing plans to which many Democrats are opposed. Democracy is about opposition and it is fully catered for in your system. The chance for Rush Limbaugh to fight back will come, just as it did for Democrats. Lets say Republicans magaically re-won the senate and we're able to prevent Obama pushing his agenda through. This would cause him to "fail" in the sense that Rush means and is not unreasonably partisan unless you think opposition itself is unnacceptable.
-
Speaking from a position that in the US would be considered leftist, I agree fully with Straping. I don't see anything unpatriotic there, just an expression of political opposition, something very important in a democracy, or it ceases to be one (as in, for example, Singapore).
-
wanting the president to fail is wanting the country to fail. Rush is a total shithead, always will be.
And would someone explain to me why US conservatives are scared to provide heathcare to the people? Conservatives in other countries don't think it's best to deny heathcare to the poor! Maybe the US right wing fucks should just round up the poor and execute them... at least it's more humane than dying from disease

Quote: wanting the president to fail is wanting the country to failCommon man thats a rediculous statement. If your president was a vehemant anti-semite wouldnt you want him to fail in rounding up and killing all the jews? I sure would.
-
If your president was a vehemant anti-semite wouldnt you still be there?
-
Not sure what you mean by that. Would I still live in my country if it was governed by an anti-semite? Yes but I would oppose my government, I would want it to fail.
-
what I mean is; would you be living in a country that would elect him?I'm not sure a vehemant anti-semite would be elected to head the Kapuskasing chamber of commerce, never mind becomming primeminister of Canada
-
Speaking more generally, it's quite possible for a democratic country to have a leader with policies that one detests. We had until recently a Prime Minister who was probably racist at heart.
-
Please folks. Once again, it's easier to find yet another reason to vilify someone you detest than it is to be honest about what he's saying. There are a lot of people who didn't vote for Obama who are tripping over themselves to sound supportive and conciliatory. "Obama is my president now. I support him and I want him to succeed." Rush is just breaking that down. He's saying Obama is his president and he will support him and wish him success when he (Rush) believes he (Obama) is doing the right thing. But when Obama is doing something he (Rush) deems not good for the country, he will hope he doesn't succeed. There is not a person in the world who doesn't think this way. And it certainly is a helluva lot more mature and conciliatory than the across the board wishes for failure - and even death - that we've heard for the past 8 years.People who want to hate someone will hate someone, even if they have to be intellectually dishonest to do so.
-
we've got a PM who is a bit of a goose-stepping, right wing nutter at the moment. He's probably trying to figure out what to do with his Saturday nights now that he doesn't have W's butthole to lick anymore
-
Those are some nice speculations and opinions you have there, Rad. I honor your right to have them. But they are based on nothing and bring nothing of any merit to the topic.
-
I don't like Rush...never did. Just a big windbag. But I don't have a problem with what he said here. In fact, it's very patriotic to stand in support of the Constitution, our traditional values and way of life. We are to support the president inasmuch as he supports this country...which does not include turning us into a socialist state. One of the first things Obama did was turn back on Federal funding for overseas medical facilities that practice abortion (kill unborn children). Whether you agree or disagree with what he did, you'd think he'd have something more important to do out of the gate.

You'll get to say what you like, but when I say something back, the thread will be locked or something.
So, please, just don't read my posts or respond to them.
That would hardly be fair. If that happens, I'll be the first to complain on your behalf. You should be able to post something that I believe is histrionic and irrelevant. I should be able to post my beliefs that what you are posting is histrionic and irrelevant. You should be able to take me to task for calling your post histrionic and irrelevant and demonstrate to me (with passion and vitriol) why I'm wrong. -
If only there was someone that actually knew what was best for the country. Of course, they'd never be able to get into office if they were honest.
