Hi guys.I need advice from people who are familiar with furuncles or have had them and have experience with them.A few days ago I noticed a pimple near the tailbone. It is not in the crack but on the side of the cheek but really close to the crack. It started as a pimple and hurt but then the thing became much wider and thicker and deeper! Now I would say it has a diameter of maybe 2 centimetres and as far as I can tell it is probably 1 cm deep!It feels like a cyst now!I have had something like this 3 years ago on the butt cheek, too, and back then this damn thing did not go away anymore!I needed to get it cut out and it left a huge scar. It was something like a cyst back then. What do I do now? I have tried fucidine cream on it and also a betaine cream but I cannot really say that they do much.I put a lot of fucidine cream on it over night and covered it and since today there is some blood coming out of it when I press toilet paper on it, but only very little.I looked at it in the mirror and you cannot really see it, only feel it.What shall I do now?Shall I go to a surgeon or a dermatologist or shall I simplywait and see if it goes away?3 years ago when I had the other cyst the dermatologist had me take doxycyclin (oral antibiotics) for weeks and they did NOTHING!I am not going to take this stuff again cause it is also not good for the liver. What's scary is that this thing really feels exactly like the thing 3 years ago which did not go away anymore.Do you have any experience with such deep cysts which seem to be encapsuled?I don't think that a doc could do much right now. Trying to pop it would not work and it would also be way too painful and simply cutting into it would most likely also not be the best choice. I think a doc would most likely just tell me to wait.I also dont have time today or tomorrow. I could only try to get an appointment at the end of the week. What would you do?

Fat furuncle on the ass!

Tonym,They are very painful. I had one once in the gooch. The doctor had to lance it and I had to take some meds for awhile to help keep the infection at bay. Furuncles may heal on their own after an initial period of itching and pain. More often, they increase in discomfort as pus collects. They finally burst, drain, and then heal on their own, but getting to this point is painful....Furuncles usually must drain before they will heal. This most often occurs in less than 2 weeks. Treatment by a health care provider is needed if a furncle lasts longer than 2 weeks, returns, is located on the spine or the middle of the face, or occurs with a fever or other symptoms because the infection may spread and cause complications.Warm moist compresses encourage furuncles to drain, which speeds healing. Gently soak the area with a warm, moist cloth several times each day. Deep or large lesions may need to be drained surgically by a health care provider. Never squeeze a boil or attempt to cut it open it at home because this can spread the infection and make it worse.Meticulous hygiene is important to prevent the spread of infection. Draining lesions should be cleaned frequently. You should wash your hands very well The after touching a furuncle. Do not re-use or share washcloths or towels. Clothing, washcloths, towels, and sheets or other items that contact infected areas should be washed in very hot (preferably boiling) water. Dressings should be changed frequently and discarded in a manner that contains the drainage, such as by placing them in a bag that can be closed tightly before discarding.Antibacterial soaps and topical antibiotics are of little benefit once a furuncle has formed. Systemic antibiotics may help to control infection in those with repeated furuncles.Good luck and be sure to wash your hands

So that is what they are called. I had one of these back when I was in middle school and it actually got to the point where it was painful to sit. Thankfully it was in a position (at the top of the crack of my butt) where sitting actually helped prompt it to pop sooner and double thankful that I was coming home from an out of town trip because it popped while I was sitting in the car. This thing about about an inch and half wide and the pus/drainage inside stunk to high hell. From what I can tell after it healed there is still a slight "dent" for lack of a better word still in that spot that never filled back in.One possible cause could an ingrown hair. You can get it lanced or you can pop it on your own (which I actually did when I had one a few years after the one I mention above) but whatever you make sure you clean the area, your hands, the tools you use, everything.

Hi guys, something strange is going on.As I already described the whole thing started like a pimple and then became wider and deeper. It had a diameter of about 1-2cm and was probably 1cm deep. Then I started treating it with antibiotic cream (fucidine) and also betaine. I also took enzymes (wobenzym) orally which are supposed to help the body get rid of infections. The first few days the progress was really good. It became noticable smaller and you could only feel the furuncle as a slightly elevated area.I wondered if this slightly elevated flat area would also go away and the skin would feel normal and smooth again. It did not pop and also nothing came out and I also never tried to pop anything. Then I ran out of the enzymes and have not been able to take them for a few days and strangely enough the thing has not progressed anymore at all.Instead I can feel it more noticably again! A few days ago it was flat and you could only feel that there has been something. Could it be scar tissue which simply won't go away anymore? But now it's not as flat anymore and there still seems to be activity. It is really starting to annoy me.Applying cream various times a day and covering the area is reallying going on my nerves! I don't know if it's a coincidence that the progress stopped when I ran out of the enzymes. Maybe the enzymes were the only reason why the body was able to get rid of this thing and now where I have no more enzymes it comes back? What's also strange is that the thing reacts to provocation.A few days ago I scratched the surface slightly to see if what I feel as an elevation might be old skin which has to be removed and as a result of this the thing became bigger almost immediately. I don't know how this is possible but I guess it is better not to manipulate it at all.

I am not sure about the particular treatments that you were using but it is true that if the infection is not completely eliminated, it will return.

doesnt the body usually get rid of whatever is in those furuncles?the thing which i have left on this spot basically feels like scar tissue. is it possible that this wont ever go away anymore?damn. but going to a doc would not help much. he would probably hardly feel it and think i am stupid for going to the doctor because of this.

The only way that I know of for the body to get rid of what's there is for it to drain. Keep applying warm moist compresses.
-
Damn, are you sure?I purposely did not try to manipulate it or press on it because I thought this is bad.A few years ago I had something similar and back then I tried to pop it and it was not good. This time I did nothing at all except applying those creams. But the problem is that the area still does not feel normal. It really feels like scar tissue and you can still feel that the area is slightly elevated. What if the stuff which was in the cyst simply cannot be removed by the body?Is this possible? Or is it possible that it was something like an ingrown hair and the hair cannot be removed by the body? But what shall I do? I don't want to try to scratch it because this would definitely provoke it to become bigger. I made this experience various times that when you scratch such a thing it will get bigger.

You probably now have what is call a sebaceous cyst. It may need to be surgically removed if it doesn't drain itself.

Given the area, perhaps a pilonidal cyst.
