If we want to define marriage as a religious act, then the government should get out of the marriage business. Leave it to the religions to deal with it, if people care. The government should only deal with civil ceremonies that give legal standing to the union between two people.Homosexual marriage should not be sanctioned by the state, but neither should heterosexual marriage.

As for abortion, as grvty said it's none of our busiess. PERSONALLY do I feel it's wrong, yes. But at the same time it shouldn't be up to anyone to decide for the women whether or not she should have the abortion. It's her demon to live with not ours. Also when it comes to the abortion I think a father should have some say as well. I understand it's the ladies body, but at the same time that child is also the mans child as well. I had a cousin that got a girl pregnant and the girl didn't want the child and wanted an abortion. Well my cousin said he would be willing to take care of the child and never ask her for a dime and well she went ahead with the abortion and really messed up my cousin for a long time. I just feel the father of the child should have a say as well. I know it's not a popular opinion I have, but it's just how I feel.

Being a human being, i think the father should have a say, but being a woman that doesnt want kids (our world is crowded enough and i would be a horrid mother) I dont want to go thru that pain, knowing i have a child, and then the resposibility after (even if i wouldnt have to pay a dime, its not about that) Its about bringing an unwanted child into the world. Now, I dont think people can get pregnant these days unless they truely want to, Look at ALL the birthcontrol methods. Im not dumb enough to get myself pregnant (the patch scare is over now). Its for those dumb asses that get themselves pregnant, and hten later decide they dont want it. I think that is wrong. If your even thinking about that, you should do all the research before you get yourself knocked up.
As anyone said though, its the individuals decision, deffinatly not mine. So, why should the government choose for us?
Did anyone hear about that couple that tried like banging and punching her stomache to try and kill the baby? Well, The guy got charged for attempted murder but she didnt get anything, cause shes the mom and has the right to 'abort' her baby.
Sick people. -

I don't even have words for it...I agree that there is enough birth control that people shouldn't being having so many issues that abortion is needed, but it does happen. With my cousin he was using protection and she was on the pill and she still got pregnant. Like I said I understand the point that the female is the one who has to carry the child for 9 months, I dunno maybe because I'm male I can see my cousins point of having a say in the abortion. Like I said he was really messed up over it for a long time afterwards. I think what hurt him as well was the fact the girl was his GF for over 2 years and he felt betrayed in a way. Like I said I know its not a popular opinion, but as a male I can relate to my cousin because if I was in his shoes I would have reacted the same way.

No Shes not kidding, i saw that same story on the news last week I think, maybe the week before but very recently. He goes to prison and she walks around free. she wasnt like a few weeks along either, showed pics of her and she was pretty damned big. With out further research to confirm it, I think that it was murder? and he was convicted? I could be remembering wrong and if noone else knows about this, Ill research it and find the whole correct story but thats whats sticking out in my head is that they killd the baby, she was several months in to the pregnancy, and that the guy is doing time for murder, or atleast charged with murder at this point in time.
I coud be wrong on any of the above though  -
**Having had 3 kids, i know that i would never expect someone to have a child they didn't want to, for whatever reason, and i know this sounds harsh, but the man is not important when i consider this. Having something growing inside you is a life changing,. sometimes health changing event, every day brings something different, and some women really suffer throughout their pregnancy, and for that, if the man wanted the child or not, i could never put someone through 9 months of pregnancy.
Its easy for a guy to say thats not fair, and maybe it isn't, but it is realistic. The man doesn't have to go the sickness, the backache, the draining tiredness etc etc etc etc not to mention the hard bit at the end.
A man just cannot say what a woman should do in this situation because he cannot understand what it is to be pregnant.........or how it must feel worrying about the life inside you every day.........and all that happens if you want the child, imagine going through all that when you didn't!
Sometimes things are not equal, and when it comes to abortion this is one of those times.
oh and let me add, i don't agree with abortion, for the record. ** -
Trust me sweets I know what you are saying and my logical side says you are completely right. Than there's my otherside, emotional side or what not, that feels how I described above. Confusing I suppose lol.I know with me being gay i'll never have to worry about that, it's just something I feel for guys that are going through this.
-
Don't get me wrong hon, i feel for them also, it must be a horrible thing for a guy to be denied being a father by anyone, never mind someone who he feels anything for..........personally i feel that there are just some things that no one has a right to say anything about, and one of them is what you do with your own body, rightly or wrongly.
-
The guy should have a say (in the legal sense) when we develop the technology to transfer the pregnancy to the guy, in a low-risk and non-invasive manner.
-
Sounds groovy to me! LoL.
-
You watch to much "Sliders" :P and if we ever get that technology, id be MORE then happy to give it to the father

Speaking of abortion. I am against it but I was just wondering that sometimes it would be necessary if the girl was raped or something. But people think it would hypcoritical to be a Christian (sorry I'm bringing it up) and be semi for abortion. And I don't get why some people have to be so stupid as to go so far as to showing graphical images and what not and grossing people out like that. In a way, they're making others look bad who aren't even the same way. Like Ntro said about the gay protest thing. Not everyone's like that, but when someone says "hey I'm a Christian and you're going to hell" people automatically think all are like that. I looked at an article/poll and it basically said that Christianity is among the top most hated religions. It stinks. Just wanted to point that out.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States#Religious_affiliationPretty much shows that most of america is still christian.
-
With out starting yet another poll, i would like to open the discussion of the death penatly (in occordance with abortion) and basic population problems, and how the birth rate is far increasing the death rate.
-
i think some people really just focus on abortion and don't remember the other long lost option in this whole battle; adoption. I am againts abortion (i think its murder) but I think nobody should really have the easy way out and just selfishly kill another human just so they dont want to have it even though they should of thought of it before getting pregnant. they could have such a great life if the person didn't just think of themselves.
-
I agree, and then every man can go through it at least once LOLEven the male doctors im sure think women are moaning and being pathetic when they are having a baby. I remember when they tore the gas and air from my hands (it took 2 of them LOL) and rushed my down to theatre when things went a bit wrong with my first, the doctor pushing the bed said, "just breath deeply" when the contractions were coming ...................to which i replied through gritted teeth "you try shoving a bowling ball up your arse doc and see if fucking oxygen does it for you!" they knocked me out soon after LOL

You meant "and". After I saw the "but", I expected you to say, "except in cases of..."Do you think that a pregnant 11-year-old who's raped by some criminally insane guy should be forced to give birth? How about cases where there's a fairly high likelihood of injury or death to the mother? Do you think the state should make the decision that the mother's life should be sacrificed? This "pro-life" stuff is such santimonious hypocrisy, coming from people who are pro-death-penalty.> they could have such a great life if the person didn't just think of themselves. You could say the same for every sperm and egg that are "wasted" by not making a baby.
-
You make some good points. And though I myself am against abortion, at the same time I feel it's not my decision to make. It's not a burdon I will have to carry.>Do you think that a pregnant 11-year-old who's raped by some criminally insane guy should be forced to give birth?Sad to say I have witnessed at my job a few girls that were around that age and pregnant. I guess that question can be reversed and say "Is it the childs fault it was conceived? Should this innocent child who did not ask to be conceived be stripped of a life?" (Again PLEASE understand I am just taking the other side of the debate. Because I can see both sides). Reguardless abortion is a very touch subject because there are so many sides to it.I guess what hit home was, my cousin Debbie was pregnant with her first child and she had the test done that checks for the chromosomes and all that (sorry I cannot spell that word and not even gonna attempt it lol). Anyways, they told her the child was going to be born mentally retarted and have severe learning disabilities and offered her to have an abortion because the quality fo life would be next to known. Well my cousin faught with option and decided she couldn't kill her baby. So she went and had the baby and guess what? The baby was 100% fine. No mental retardation or anything of the sort. So goes to show not all tests are accurate, and after this happened my cousin did some research and found a lot of other mothers that went through the same thing.Again the topic of abortion is just sooo touchy because you can hear all sides, even agree with parts of it.

I have difficultly with the equation of "fetus" and "baby". What about an ovum that was fertilized two days ago? Is it a baby?
-
Good question. For me I always taught a baby begins when an Egg and sperm come together. So to me a baby is a baby at that point. Atleast that's my belief =-D
