In reply to: I was poking around on another forum last night and was pleased to notice in their rules that text typing was forbidden on their forum. Maybe that should be considered here. Same on another forum I visit. I wonder why it isnt here...

Im a bisexual chick and i was wondering....

Wunderbar idea! Mods?
-
I wouldn't want to put any additional barriers to people's coming here and asking questions. Yes, they should try to write as clearly as they can - we all should try to make our communications clear to those who are reading them. But the idea of mods' being 'style police' doesn't appeal to me.
-
Would it really be all that different from the NO CAPS rule that does exist here?
-
I think people should use more italics. By the way, that was an italics period, unlike the one that's coming up right about now. Yeah, that was it.
-
(OK, I can't resist any longer, and JenJen, this really isn't directed at you just a convient place to link it in.)Regarding style then. Which style format are we to use Terabian, Strunk, Lynch.

Whats the appropriate forum to start a thread that has nothing but 9i83r15h in it? Lol that could be a fun game. Please don't say no where because it would be a heap of spam
-
Random junk goes into the Community Forum. If the question is, "Where would a post on ??? go?", the answer is almost always "the Community Forum".
-
Ok I started a thread, it would be cool if people responded. By the way, this thread is a sad, sad joke. Perhaps it should be closed?
-
Or people should just stop posting to it.
-
I don't want to be a moderator. I don't want to be the king either.

Here's an idea. Posters are free to use teen talk if they like. The rest of us are free to ignore the post. If they really need information, they will figure it out soon enough.I just skip any posts with teen talk, figuring that there's nothing serious there anyway. (It's funny how people judge you not only by what you say, but by how you say it). Some people talk (and type) just to have something to do.

Have a Merry Christmas, and go easy on the explosives.

well im a teen and i don text talk "too" much but jeez it really makes me mad when people down on people younger than them, werent you once that age too? i try to understand and respect every opinion but jeezus crist dont be a fucking asshole about it, be considerate, spelling dosent define a person, particularly on the net where typing dosent go as smooth for eveyone. And on another note if u can read it does it really matter?
-
It has nothing to do with age. If you want to get advice only from kids who are into text talk, then go ahead and post in text talk. Maybe another 12-year-old can help you with questions about bisexuality. We're not talking about spelling. We're talking about a different language, like pig latin was a long time ago. It's honestly very hard to understand for people who aren't into it. What percentage of people do you think are into it? Using it excluded a lot of people. Some people can understand it, if they spend a lot of time thinking about it. If someone asks for advice using text-talk, and then gets pissy because no one answers their post, who is being rude? Some people seem to think that the world was constructed just to serve their own needs. They need to grow up.

While text talk may preclude the author from having to think about using proper English, and my arguably save him a few milliseconds it takes most readers, I think, four or five, maybe even six times longer to decipher and read. Most people are not going to take the time to try and figure it out, at least not me. So in-turn, if the author is asking a question the responses he gets are going to be few.
>>>"And on another note if u can read it does it really matter?"
Yes, text talk will usually result in the reader concentrating more on deciphering the text than comprehending what the text is trying to state. Thus the point of the statement is lost. Furthermore, most authors who post in text talk do not limit their abbreviations to the text. They will also abbreviate the question or thought that they are trying to convey and there by lose the meaning and point of their post.

trying to be cool + laziness = text talk
