I think geography has a lot to do with it. Right now, Muslim radicals have their eye on Europe. With all the anti-American sentiment that's been drummed up there since the fall of the Soviet Union, it's ripe for the infiltrating. All that mess about a cartoon and the riots in France are just the beginning if Europeans don't pull their heads out of their collective rear-ends. It's their kind of kow-towing to the extremists in hopes they'll go away that led to Hitler's beginning WWII (so quickly they all forget their history). And anyone who understands the predominantly Arab culture of Muslims will know that kow-towing is considered a sign of weakness which will only bring them on stronger! (Europeans expecting everyone in the world to think like them...sheesh!)

I thought Spain was only in Afghanistan, though I would need to confirm that. Spain had soldiers in Iraq at the time of the Madrid bombing. The Spanish government tried to cover it up and blame it on the Basques, but the truth came out just before the presidential election. The opposing candidate campaigned on a platform centered around withdrawing from Iraq. He won (just barely), and Spain withdrew.Had Spain not gone into Iraq in the first place, they probably would not have been bombed. It's true that the Spanish and British governments are completely responsible for where they deploy their own troops (which is why they were bombed), but their involvement in Iraq is not at all popular with their people. Their citizens blame their government, but they also resent the U.S. for leading the charge. It's kind of like being angry at someone for getting your friend involved in drugs. Your friend is responsible for doing it, but he wouldn't be doing it if the other guy hadn't given him the opportunity.

In reply to: but their involvement in Iraq is not at all popular with their people. Their citizens blame their government, but they also resent the U.S. for leading the charge. I think the extent to which most British people care is exagerated. If people were really so upset about it then they would not have re-elected Tony Blair and The Labour Party.

I dmenad evidance that they actively tried to cover up that it was muslims. I know they initialy thought that it was the Basques but whats to say that wasnt what they genuinely believed at first? Afterall ETA have been active in recent years.

If you think Europeans hate America (as opposed to Americans), you should ask them how they feel about Moslems.
Moslems in Europe are even more ghetto-ized that blacks are in the U.S. A Turk living in Germany might have been there for generations, and is culturally not Turkish at all, but still not be a citizen. The Moslem ghettos around Paris are not nice places. And if you have an Arabic-sounding name, your resume goes right into the trash (there are not equal opportunity legislation there that exist in the U.S.).
You can look at the radicalization problem in dumbed down way, as our government seems to ("They hate us because we're free"), but the reality is far more complex. There are a lot of young, male, idle, frustrated Moslems ripe for the picking.
I'm not in any way justifying Islamic terrorism. I'm just saying that we could really benefit from learning what triggers it, and where the perpetrators are coming from.
-
Thank you for telling us Europeans what we feel. Can you tell me when I need to use the washroom?
-
Muslims in Europe are a varied bunch, due to the fact that Europe is a very varied place and should not be discussed as if its one single entity like the USA. We do, for example, have equal oppertunities legislation in the UK.
-
We have alot more than that in Europe. It's the Jews we hate, They just really don't get it to Leave! we tried for 2000 years so far.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews.
-
Whats wrong with the Jews? I mean lets think about jews shall we?When the jews emmigrate somewhere, they do all in their power to integrate. With the exception of the minority that is orthodox Jews, the Jews are quite possibly the most adapt people in the world for integrating into a foreign society. They adopt the clothes, customs, and nationalities of wherever they live, on a scale muslims have not managed. You do not speka for all Europe when you say we "hate the Jews". I for one am proud that we opened our borders to them in the years leading up to the holocaust. These Jews we let in have become firmly British and contributed to our society. I only wish I could say the same about all of our minorities.
-
I dont know why people started hating them, they still do. All the people want is for them to leave Europe or switch to christianity. I think it was Edward I who did something to jews. Then Isabella I ugh to many to go through. Martin Luther even created a religion against jews, I think jews still dont get it. Maybe Europe has to murder more?
-
What the hell??? Are you a Natzi or something? I have seen you write some pretty hateful stuff on here before but this takes the cake.
-
Nope. Just taking stuff from this.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jews
-
Because of what wikipedia says you think more jews need to be killed? You're ignorant. learn soem tolerance for other classes of people. If you cannot do that you're in for a rough life.I hope you stay in Canada because we don't need anymore asses like you in the US.
-
I was asking Owain something but w/e.no wonder Britain sent all the poor people to the New World.
-
Excuse me? Might wanna watch yourself. You're already walking on a tight rope. You have a very ignorant mouth on these boards and I for one am getting a bit tired of it.
-
Ugh. Just read that, if you cannot find the information in the passage, then stop reading.

What has the secret dealings of Columbus to do with either Judaism in Europe, or Britains poor people?
