Well my Aunt died this last Sunday morning from what they thought was a massive heart attack. She’s was only 42 years old and she leaves behind 4 young children ages 4,5,8,9 and her oldest son just got married two weeks ago. Of course this is very sad, but the new information I just got makes me furious. My Aunt went to the doctors Monday with chest pains and numbing in the arm and her doctor gave her Xanax telling her it was just indigestion. Well she went back in that Friday because it was getting worse and all he did was up her dosage of Xanax and sent her home. Than 2am Sunday morning she woke her husband up telling him something was wrong and she needs to go to the hospital. On the way to the hospital she said it was getting worse and to call an ambulance to come get her where they were. She ended up dying on the way to the hospital in the ambulance. My uncle wanted an autopsy done to make sure it was a massive heart attack like they said; well her doctor cancelled the autopsy request and said she died from her diabetes. I’m sorry but to me that’s just ridiculous! When people die from diabetes, they usually black out/pass out and such, not get chest pains and numbing in the arm. And to cancel the autopsy?? Ugh!From what my mother has said she’s not sure if my uncle is going to sue or not. Well, sorry, I am not the suing type but if that would have happened to my spouse I’d be suing BIG time, mainly because now I would have 4 young children to take care of and raise. There is no way I would let him get away with basically killing my spouse. If he would have done the appropriate tests, my Aunt would still be alive, but instead he dismissed her with indigestion. This is just one of the worse cases of malpractice I have heard in a long time, and in my opinion this doctor doesn’t deserve to have his license to practice medicine.Sorry for the rant but I guess I needed to get it off my chest! Worst part is I cannot even attend the funeral because it’s in Florida.

My Aunt

Awwww hon, cuddle I can totally understand your fury at the, what looks like, wanton disregard for your aunts health AND now almost a cover up! I hope your uncle presses for an autopsy, maybe then you will get some answers. My thoughts are with you, her hubby and her children
-
I'm really sorry to hear about you family's loss and I share your outrage.getting to the bottom of this won't bring your aunt back but it really sounds like there are questions that need answers.
-
I am so sorry for your loss Eddie. \*hugs\* And I am so furious at the same time. Sexpot is correct. So often women are not treated for a heart attack and heart disease. And incidently women often have different symptoms than men.
Being that I work in cardiology, I attended a wonderful womens conference. And the cardiologist speaker said women believe they are more at risk for developing breast cancer or cervical cancer. When in reality, heart disease is number one for women.
I hope your uncle does sue. I feel so bad for the children. -
The doctor totally screwed up and should get his ass sued off. In our system, there is unfortunately no other way to correct bad and incompetent behavior. I also don't understand how the doctor has the right to cancel an autopsy. If I were involved, I would be tempted to beat the shit out of the doctor. And then he apparently filed a false death certificate (there should be several lines for cause of death, with the top line being the primary one).I understand what kind of emotional state your uncle must be in (and I'm sorry for his and the family's loss), but he has to pursue legal action, for everyone's good. He doesn't have to do it tomorrow, but he needs to do it eventually. This makes me angry.

on a side note... I'm not sure why a tranquilizer would be perscribed for indigestion

Angel:It’s very sad for her kids especially. She tried for years to get a daughter and she finally did 4 years ago, and the poor girl has no idea what’s going on and just wants her mommy. Her next youngest has a severe learning disability and is just as confused and lost as the 4 year old. They 8 and 9 year olds understand but from what I hear they have been really quiet, which who can blame them; their poor world has been turned upside down. The eldest son is completely devastated. He was VERY close to his mother, and the fact he JUST got married. Only blessing is that she at least got to see him get married before she died.Lisa:Everyone is urging my Uncle to contact a lawyer once the funeral is taken care of. Like I said before I wouldn’t be doing it for any other reasons other than to help take care of the children and for the doctor to get reprimanded for misdiagnosing something so serious. As for breast cancer, we all just found out she had breast cancer awhile back and had the lump removed. Only she and her husband knew they didn’t let anyone else know.Steve:I honestly have no clue how the doctor was able to cancel the autopsy, and my uncle never found out it was cancelled until yesterday, and the funeral is today. What really just bugs me is he marked it as she died because of her diabetes. Her diabetes was stable, and has been stable for a long time. How my uncle hasn’t gone after the doctor, physically, I don’t know. I am sure the only reason he hasn’t is because of his children; they don’t need any more problems right now. Like I said to Lisa, everyone’s telling him to seek counsel once the funeral is taken care of and things die down. I just hope he listens to everyone.Mr.U:That was my mistake; it was Zantec, not Xanax. There are a lot of answers right now, and I hope they can get the answers they need. Though it won’t bring back their mother/wife it will help with closure

I know this may sound brutal, but if I were your uncle I would have cancelled the funeral and demanded an autopsy. It's probably too late now. That doctor has a lot to answer for, and the cancelling of the autopsy that your uncle requested borders on criminal fraud. This is the worst thing I've heard in a while.

absolutely right !both of my grandparents that died recently died of natural causes, sort of. My grandpas septic condition and renal failure resulted fom breaking both femurs and the staff infection he got in the operating room.i was recently looking over hsi death certificate, while septic is listed first it goes on to describe 4 more lines of shit that arose from that that caused the death. My grandmas too. That led to diggin up theDC for my grandma that died of cancer in 81'.it has several things lested under it, not just cancer. I dug up my grandpas who died before i was even concieved, it listed sevral factors, not jsut the lou gerrings that led to them.there is never a single cause of death, even a car crash victem who was decapitated in a wreck, has several causes listed underneath it. All sustained inthat wreck, but all contributing to the death.I wouldnt trust that doc as far as i could kick his assf down the road, ad to cancel a autopsey ??thats un-fucking-heard of. to advise the family that you dont need one is one thing, to cancel it is another.I now Id be kicking some ass over it.Then Id sue.to sue is bullshit if you sue for every little thing tying people up in court and forcing good people to pay increased malpractice insurance rates. There are ftimes its warrented, I belive this to be one of them. and Eddie, Sorry for your loss, and for hte kids that just want mommy. That seems to me to be one more good reason to go after the fuck.

In reply to: Her diabetes was stable, and has been stable for a long time That is good. It will probably show in her chart that it was in fact stable. The doctor will not be able to use that as an excuse for her death.
-
In reply to: It's probably too late now. That's my thoughts. I am not sure what they can really do about it now, or if it's something they can wait to do until after the funeral. To be honest I bet my Uncle is just not sure what to do. Though I guess a doctor did call my Uncle today from the hospital requesting a meeting with him, so maybe something clear will come from that.I just seriously hope this doctor gets what he deserves and has to look at my Uncle and these heart broken children’s lives he crushed.
-
In reply to: That is good. It will probably show in her chart that it was in fact stable. The doctor will not be able to use that as an excuse for her death. Actually it's interesting you say that because when I spoke to my mother she was stating that the hospital was looking over her charts and they don't understand the listing of diabetes as a cause of death. So I am curious if that's not why a meeting was requested for my Uncle from the hospital.

I assume that embalming has taken place, but I'm not sure that that makes it too late. Perhaps not. I would cancel the funeral and do the autopsy, if it's possible to do.
-
Well the funeal (At least the showing) is today, but when I speak to my mother later I will relay that he should think about requesting another autopsy before the burial
-
Sorry to hear the way sucky news.
-
Sorry to hear that Eddie. My aunt died last Sunday as well she was in her eighties though. The last I knew, at least in Oklahoma, the family does have the right to request an autopsy regardless of objections or time passed. They do have to pay for it however. In your families case I think it would be something to provide a little solace in the long run. I wouldn't want to think, years hence, that I just let the bastard get off without attempting anything to make him accountable.
-
my woman is heavy into that shit, so I talked ot her about it.embalming removes the blood, preserves the body. thats all, it doesnt remove trama ortel tale signs of abuse or damage form medication. Many many murderers hae been caught because of bodies exhumed years after the burial, and the autopsys that folloed digging them up is what led to them being caught. The evidence is sitll there, just hte blood toxicology is gone, other tissues hold that same toxicology.
-
Then, as emotionally wrenching as it may be for the family, I'd go ahead with the autopsy. What a sad situation.
-
In reply to: I wouldn't want to think, years hence, that I just let the bastard get off without attempting anything to make him accountable. That's how I think as well. Something like that would tear me up inside always having suspicions or not having all the truth laid out in front of me.
-
I'm so sorry Eddie. I'll be praying for you
