I searched for this on here and I couldn't find it. So here goes..... about the new smoking laws in the U.S. how you can't smoke in any public places and what not. What is going to happen to the Hookah bars they have. And if someone really wanted to, could they open like a private bar for people who wanted to smoke? Dumb question but i was curious.

No more smoking?
-
It depends on how the laws are worded, and if this is a state matter rather than federal, they may be different from state to state. However usually if smoking is banned in public bars, this means any bar accessible to the general public. Bars of private members-only clubs may be exempt, but probably not if they sell memberships at the door.Bar and restaurant smoking bans have not caused big problems here, because people who need to smoke have generally been able to go outdoors to do so fairly easily. If the US bans extend to outdoor areas it will be more difficult for smokers to cope, I think.

In West Virginia, my father was the Quartermaster at the local VFW, and they had a lot of problems with the Smoking bans and they're a members only non-profit. They had to have thousand dollar smoke eaters installed, and even then the city upped the laws to no smoking in any businesses. Needless to say, a bunch of drunk veterans aren't gonna go to the VFW if they can't smoke, and as a result, the club's about to close up....
-
one way around it here was and indoor, outdoor garden if that makes sense, it caused a bit of shit but they couldnt do anything about it lol
-
Yah i figured if you had a private membership or something you could. The main reason people were pissed around here (Northern Illinois) is the fact that they can't smoke in bars anymore. I'm not a smoker and in certain places i think its kind of dumb.

Ohio went smoke free roughly a year ago and I love it!! I love being able to go to the bars and not smell like a smoke factory when I go home. Plus, and most importantly, I love the health factor. I don't have to have other peoples smoke forced into my lungs when I chose NOT to smoke. I have 100% no issues if someone wants to smoke, I just don't like it forced upon me. I used to take trips outside just to get away from the smoke before the ban, which always seemed backwards to me. Glad things have changed. I have several friends that smoke, and they have no issues with going outside to have their smoke. I know three of my friends who are smokers actually voted for the ban. They even admit they like going home and not smelling like smoke, plus they also didn’t think it’s right they are forcing their smoke on other people. Also there was the big debate that it was going to stop people from going out to eat or going to the bars, which just didn’t happen. People will always go out to eat, and people will still go out to bars. I have not noticed one bit of a difference in my area after the smoking ban. If anything I have noticed a lot of new faces in the bars after the ban passed, or maybe it’s just I can actually see people without the smog of smoke (LOL jk jk!!!)Anyways that’s my take on it all.

California banned smoking in public areas long ago, but they have Hookah Bars here. I don't think there is a mambership required.. My son has gone there, but I'm not sure how it all works and if there is a seperate section or whatever.

It seems to me that smoking should be fine in public bars,In utah you have public bars where you can only get beer, then yuo have private clubs requiring a membership and you can get beer or mixed drinks or shots. It seems to me that an enterprising person would open up a private club with dancing and drinks and make it smoke free.I realize there alot of non smokers, and that there are alot of people who can go either way but would rather be smoke free, a reputation could be easily established and touted as a smoke free bar for those people to goto to have a good time.If utah passes this bullshit, Ill open a private club thats for smokers. I cold never open one for non smokers since Id have to be there and I am a smoker.

Quote:It seems to me that smoking should be fine in public bars, Why? Why should a public place cater to people who choose to smoke and put everyone else’s health who chose not to smoke in danger? When it comes down to it, it makes sense to have public areas where EVERYONE access as smoke free. It's not healthy to make other people breath in the toxins that other people choose to smoke. Smoking is a choice, if someone chooses to want to smoke than they can step outside and be courteous of my decision not to smoke. I think it’s plain and simple, but again that’s just me. I understand where you are coming from, that’s it’s a public place and it’s a persons choice if they wish to go to these places they know there are going to be smokers. But at the same time if it fair that these people have to even consider not going out because other people made a choice to smoke? I think it’s ridiculous personally. If a person wants to smoke, than take it elsewhere where other people don’t have to be affected. Quote:It seems to me that an enterprising person would open up a private club with dancing and drinks and make it smoke free.I realize there alot of non smokers, and that there are alot of people who can go either way but would rather be smoke free, a reputation could be easily established and touted as a smoke free bar for those people to goto to have a good time. That’s never going to happen because than they are limiting themselves on the patrons. The simplest solution is to ban smoking, and let those who choose to smoke step outside or the establishment can create a smoke room (As long as it meets the required ventilation). When it comes down to it the majority of the public are non-smokers, so there is no reason to make public places cater to people who choose to smoke.I know many people think this is such a huge deal and even make sure fusses over it (Not saying you are Chance). Really it’s not. It has not affected Ohio’s economy or stopped people from going out to bars and restaurants. I can honestly say I have never heard anyone out in the bars bitch and complain they have to go outside to smoke, they suck it up and step outside for a couple minutes to get their nicotine fix. Actually my friend Michelle likes it because on really cold days it actually limits her how much she smokes when it’s out in public.

Most drinkers are smokers, and bars and smoke has gone together isnce thier invention. Why should I not be able to goto a bar and have a smoke while I drink? since when did all the fun stuff get made just for non smokers?open a non smoking bar, Id bet my left nut you cuold pack it, its not limiting patrons, its jsut drawing those that want that type of good time with no smoke. Both drinking and smoking are a vice, niether one is good for you, how come its oK for you to drink but nto for me to smoke? All this and I dont even drink anymore, but I am fucking tired of being banned from everywhere. what the rule now? I can only smoke in my house in my room under the covers with the lights off?IF someoen wants to open a bar with no smoking, go for it, its a great idea, Id bet my left nut you could pack the house nightly, but I still shoudl be able to have the choice to go someplace that I can smoke! Its really easy, two clubs, or if ya prefer two clubs in one building with seperate vent systems, it matters not to me but my ability to go to a bar and have a drink and a smoke shouldnt be shit on just because some people dont wnat to be around it.I was all for bannign smoking in places to eat, that one makes sense, its a family affair alot of tiems when ya goto eat, but only adults are allowed in a bar, your not being forced to go to a bar and breath my smoke, you made that choice! your an adult!and who pays the taxes on shit?I do a smoker, I pay higher tqaxes, higher insurance, higher everything and get liess rights than people who dont smoke? fuck that.I understand not wanting to be around it, Im fine with that, but to say that I cant go out and meet peopel and have a good time in a bar because I smoke? fuck you, me and my klind are the ones that patronized those bars for years and let them make a living, chargin us 3 times too much for drinks and smokes at the bar and now we are not allowed to go to that same bar and burn one?its bullshit, you fuckers already took away the planes and parks and zoos, and amusment parks. Who the fuck are yuo people to tell me I cant have a smoke in an outdoor area? and now ya want the smokers second home and take away the bars as well?anyone at any time can open a bar and make it smoke free, if non smokers want it, they will go, and Im sure a few smokers that dont mind going with out would show up as well if the bar was a happening place instead of just a tiny shit hole with 2 kinds of beer.Going to a non smoking or a smoking bar should be a choice, since when the fuck did those that peopel who dont pay the funds to all the shit get to make the rules? This is one area I have really large violent streaks over.disneyland> yeah kids no smoking, but a smoking area would be nice, I can even deal with it on a flight, and places to eat, those all make sense, bannning it in bars is a crock of shit, Ill continue to ligth up ANYPLACE I FUCKING FEEL LIKE IT just to piss peopel off, I pay many smoking tickets each year just because iM an asshole. and while they writ ehtem I stand there blowing smoke in their face, hey Im getting a ticket, what the fuck else are they gonna do? lay a hand on me? it wouldnt be the first tiem Iv been run in for assaulting a police officer, and over bullshit to begin with, like when I took my son to the hospital and I got a smoking ticket for smoking in MY FUCKING TRUCK while pulling OUT of the parking lot.He got to write his ticket, but he earned it, I made certain of that, i dont like fucking cops to begin with let alone that I feel like is harrassing me, or a fucking rent a cop, rent a cops are peopel who couldnt make it anyplace else but feel like they need to have some power, fucking rent a cops so much as lay ahand on my shoulder and I drop em, He wrote his ticket, but he earned it.non smokers want a place to go drink? someone shoudl open one, its free enterprise, outside of that they can suffer breathing the smoke of the people who made the bars and industry to begin with.

Chance there is one simple response to that whole thing: You choose to smoke, we choose not to smoke. Smoking is a CHOICE, so if smoking is something people want to do I’m cool with that, but don’t push your choice on other people. There is nothing anyone can say that will make me think we should cater to the smokers. Smoking and second hand smoke causes cancer, and it’s something we should not be forced to deal with when in public, regardless where in public we are. You continually talk about your rights, but what about my rights to NOT smoke and take the chance of getting cancer?? My rights should not be limited because someone decides to smoke. Granted we are all adults and we make our own choices, but why should my choices be limited because another person chooses to smoke? Why should I have to stay home because I don’t want to smell like smoke and be forced to inhale toxins? It makes absolutely no sense. Again the majority of this country is a non-smoker, so we non-smokers should not have to suffer under someone else choice. I respect the fact you have the right to do what you please, it’s none of my business. But it comes my business when someone else’s choice can eventually cause me health risks. I think it’s very irresponsible to think because this is a free country that we should allow smokers to endanger everyone else’s lives, even if it is at a bar. Also who said you cannot go out to the bars and meet people?? No one is saying that. They are simply saying be courteous of your choice and take your smoke outside or to the designated areas. So in theory they are not stopping people from smoking when they are out having a good time, they are just stopping you from doing it inside the establishment (or at least in the general area of the main populous). Quote: Going to a non smoking or a smoking bar should be a choice, since when the fuck did those that peopel who dont pay the funds to all the shit get to make the rules? Why do we need to be segregated? I see a major flaw in your theory. What about people who have friends who are smokers and they are not smokers? Do they have to get new friends so they don’t have to go to these smoking bars or vise-versa? There is just too much confliction in your theory. Asking people to step outside to smoke is not asking too much, if anything it’s respectful. Plus I find it sad people have to smoke to have a good time, the company you keep should be enough enjoyment… at least I would hope. I know several people who refused to go out to the bars before because they were tired of smelling like a smoke stack when they left, and also the health risks were not worth it. But they now go out several times a month since the smoking ban. A trust me there a hundreds (if not thousands) of other people that were just like these people. Also want to know another reason I am in favor of smoking bans? The mother of a close friend died from lung cancer, and she never smoked a day in her life. She was a waitress all her life she loved the public and talking and meeting new people. She was a waitress in restaurants but was also a bar maid in a local bar almost every Saturday night. She was a single parent, so she did what she had to do to support her kids. She died at the age of 55 due to advance lung cancer because of all the second hand smoke. This is a prime example why there needs to be public smoking bans in ALL public venues. Plan and simple I respect peoples choices to smoke, but don’t force your choice on me.Also Chance you know I respect you as well; I’m not being mean or trying to cause any problems. I like to debate just as much as the next person lol. Plus I live in a smoke free state, I’m happy!! LoL. And if I am going to be 100% honest, I really hope the rest of the states adopt the same plan.

Eddie, its a choice, 100% guranteed. so what is wrong with choosing to go to a place that offers smoke free and still having places that offer smoking? That is my whole point, anyone can open a smoke free place under current rules, but if the laws are passed (Im speaking about Utah here as thats what I know) then I cant by the same toekn open a club that does allow smoking.its choices taken away from smokers, why dont our opinions and wants and desires count?because we chose to smnoke? so fuicking what, we pay for it already in health in cash in insurance bills and medical care. You dont smoke, Im fine with that, dont wnat to> dont do it, by why should I have a law telling me I cant smoke? The figth her to make smokign illegal in poublic period means I dont even have a choice to open a bar that allows it and at a membership cost.a resturant tried that and guess what? they got fined and put out of business because they had a membership fee and ID cards that yo had to have to eat in a place yo ucould fucking smoke!curently you can go open a no smoking bar, its fine and legal but I cant open a smoking bar if the law passes?Fucking Bullshit. Its a double standard, and that is what pisses me off. Im already paying for smoking in mor than one way, why should I now be astrosized and not even allowed to take my smokes to meet thier best friend mr beer?Noone forces you to goto a bar adn breath my cigerette smoke, but its OK to pass alaw that means I have to breath clean air to be there?Fuck that.Iv prolly typoed far worse than normal standards for me, youll have to excuse me, Iv been outside SMOKING and shoveling yet another fucking 16" of god damned snow out of my driveway and sidewalks.

It's really not a big deal. I live in Ohio too and the smokers haven't complained about it. Most bars built a little patio outside so you can drink and smoke all you want. And the patio always attracts alot of people in the summertime...smokers and non-smokers. The thorn in my side is a smoker and it certainly hasn't stopped him from going to the bar. I don't smoke. I can't stand the smell either. But he and I have managed to live together for over six years, as have other couples that have a smoker and a non-smoker. So a public ban is really not a big deal.
-
I hate smoking with a passion. My parents smoked around me my entire life, and I grew to despise it. But, on the same respect, I think everyone should be able to do whatever the hell they want to, as long as it doesn't mess with somebody else. So, I don't mind that they ban smoking in public places, but I think Business owners should be given the choice whether or not to allow smoking in their bars or restaurants. Put a sign on the outside, no one can complain they "didn't know".Problem solved. That's what I think.
-
And THAT is all I ask for, not a law dictating your choice is made for you, a simple leave it to teh business owner to decide.
-
What about the waiter/waitress' that have to work there?
-
Its nt a big deal if your not a smoker.how would you like to be stuck with me who hasnt smoked for hours and some asshoels brats runnign like mad, crying, throwing a fit and parents that do jack shit about it?Im going to react to it no matter what, I do it nearly on a daily basis anyways, Im going to say something and thers about 10% ofa chance the parents will wnat to fight and if that happens Ill gladly give them a fight. nOW IMAGINE me with out being able to have a smoke or calm down before engaging the parents telling them to get off thier fucking ass and control thier children... Fuck talking to them, Ill simply start hitting them, atleast vilence lets me work out some aggression and calm down, but much like sex, fuck I need a smoke after.Wal Marts the worst, Id die if I couldnt have a smoke in my car befor heading in there. Im hit with shopping carts pushed by someone elese little ill bahaved bastards, kids on fucking bikes in the isles, god damned heelie shoes with the little assholes wizzing by, fucking old ladys haivng a meeting in the middle of aisles so that you cant get by to get grocerys or fucking dog food.Come visit me sometime, Ill take you to wally world and show ya how much more agressive I can be for not being allowed to smoke than I already am.so far this year, Iv been in over a doxen yelling matches in wally world with parents who dotn bother to watch thier fucking brats, or stand by idle and watch them wreak havoc, 3 of those have gotten physical, Im more than happy to make it 4 or more.In all fairlness, one was wit a guy Id been after for a few years, when I ran into him at wally world, I took the chance to beat his ass, I dont even know if he had kids or if they were with him if he did, he just had been running and when I caught him I made sure to remind him who I was and why he was being pummeled.

LOL, I love your descriptive posts Chance.

There is HUGE health risks to smoking and inhaling second hand smoke why should that be pushed on non-smokers? Why should someone else CHOICE to smoke be pushed on those who don't?Opening up “Smoke Free Bars” is not going to work, when you start breaking it down it simply is not going to work. There are just too many downsides and there is only one upside; it’s a smoke free environment. Not enough to be a success if you ask me.But it shouldn’t even be all about that. It should be what’s best for the welfare of the public in general, and that would simply be a smoke free environment. If we would have known YEARS ago the health dangers smoking causes (as well as second hand smoke) and put in effect smoking bans back than, my friends mother would still be here today. That’s the killer of it all; someone else’s choice in life is what ended up killing her. Crazy huh?

they have a choice to not work there same as I have a choice to not visit the ones that offer no smoking.I worked ina shit hole for ten years, a nwe acid or thermal burn every time I went to work, I spent many night slaying on gratting 9 floors up throwing up blood while waiting for help to the ground for an ambulance to take me to the clinic and cough and yack for a few more hours while on oxygen. I did it for the money, and IF there was a choice to have smoke free bars instead of a mandatory fucking requiremnt, then you could choose what bar you wanted to work in.I am fine with a choice, its the dictation of the stae telling me where i can and cant that Im against.Im even OK with some of that as it makes sense to not smoke in an eatery, but a bar is all adults, who can choose for themselves if they want to enter that establishment or not and a simple sign on the front door saying smoking or non smoking would be there to influence your decision.Choice..not dictated rules.Eddie, when the fuck you gonna stop ranting back and forth with me over smoking and answer the important shit me and scotty laid out for you to answer?
