The biggest problem with Christians/Christianity that I have, in a nutshell, is that theres a large population of Christians that are extremely close minded - they frequently shove their opinions and beliefs down our throats, but won't take it back.I am probably one of the most open-minded people you'll meet. I accept people for who they are even if I don't necessarily agree with it. But it's not my life and I shouldn't tell someone else how to live his or her life. Believe it or not there are more Christians who are like me than there are of the Christians you speak of. Problem is these close-minded Christians are always the ones who get on the news or in the "spot light" if you wish.I think what people don't realize when they make ignorant comments about someone’s God is offensive and hurtful, regardless how close you are to that religion. Not to mention when you make these comments you are not just attacking those people who are these close-minded individuals but whether you know it or not you are attacking everyone of that particular religion.>I posted that opinion of mine, to spark exactly THAT kind of reaction. It's very predictable. The fact that it offended and even "hurt" some, questions: If their faith was hurt by words, was it a very strong faith to begin with?Absolutely not. Say someone said something incredible cruel about someone you love and you take offense, does that not mean you truly don't love that person?? Same concept applies when it comes to Christians and how they love their God.All I am trying to say is people need to have more respect for each other on these forums, regardless if it's religion or another topic. There are REAL PEOPLE behind these screen names and that’s something people here really need to remember.

A question I've always wanted to ask people is why do you believe in God?Is it because you don't believe that there is any other way that we could have come into existence? Or do you just not find it possible that there is nothing after life, that this is just it?I'm really curious about this because I was raised Catholic with people who believed this without a doubt, and to be honest, I used to believe it too. But I was at an age when I also thought that I could fly and that I'd grow up to be a Power Ranger.

It's something I believe deep within my soul. Sure it's not something I can prove, but it's something I truly believe in.
This idea was not forced into my head as a child because going to Church was something that was not forced upon us, we went if it's something we truly wanted to do.
I have been to retreats where I have felt the Holy Spirit. Again people can call me crazy or say it was something I imagined... but to me it was real and that's all that matters.
Are there parts of my religion that I don't believe or I feel have been altered or simply embellished. Yes there is, but the concept as a whole I do believe in.
This might not have been the answer you were looking for, but it's the only answer I have.

Anyone can say anything, do anything, saying that its God's will and simply justify it by saying that to them it is real and that's all that matters. Its the loophole built into faith that has allowed it to survive for so long and its insane!

Quote:Also, I never bash non-believers on here, but when someone calls God and Jesus very bad names, that is hurtful. I, as a fellow Christian, would never call non-believers bad names nor bash them for not believing in God It is very hurtful for me as well. I feel as though god has helped me through huge parts of my life.. i don't know where i would be now if i hadn't turned to him. It pains me inside to know that someday those assholes who speak that way about god are going to be spending the rest of their lives in a place i would never want to see. But hey, they deserve to be there. Quote:I think anyone who actively denies God and chooses to blaspheme Jesus is an arrogant, pretentious, bitter dipshit. Right on Damien! Quote:The people who think I should burn in hell because I have chosen not to believe the same thing as them, or that YOU should burn in hell because you're gay. I dont think you should burn in hell.. or eddie should burn in hell for being gay. Of course not! But for the things that you say.. and for the way you show your disrespect.. I dont think you deserve to enjoy heaven because you have never supported the idea of it.

Same concept applies when it comes to Christians and how they love their God.Wrong. You don't know me well enough to assume how I'd react in that situation. If your going to make comparissons, let's use the EXACT concept. Let's face it, 'Tuna cunt' is hardly a constructive, 'incredibly cruel' insult. Not unless you were raised in Tellytubby land anyway. If someone called someone I love that, it wouldn't "hurt" me in any sense of the word. Chances are, that person would be so irrelevant to me, and the one that I love, that I'd dismiss it completely. I'd accept that there are people that think differently to me, and I'd let them get on with it.My comment certainly wasn't ignorant. I knew full well why I was saying it, and the point I wanted to make. I wouldn't take it back, and I'd say it again.~Jay

Quote:I dont think you should burn in hell..But you just said:Quote:But hey, they deserve to be there. And how did God help you? Were you stuck in a fire and he gave you fire extinguisher? Did you lose your hand in a boating accident and he grew it back for you? Were you feeling really low and he gave you a piece of chocolate? Or did you think to yourself that what happened is God's plan, and that it happened for a good reason that you just don't know about? Because that is not God helping, that is you rationalizing the situation so it doesn't hurt as much. That is you protecting yourself.God has made no physical appearance, made no physical miracles. Out of the millions of people who have gone to Lourdes over the past 100 years, there have only been about 66 miracles. And not a single one of them had diseases that could not already be cured. Not a single one of them had limbs regrown. Not a single act of divinity has ever been proven.

I look forward to it. I doubt God would tolerate me listening to Metal. Then again, it needn't "pain" you. Ignorance is bliss. I don't believe in your hell, so leave me to it - you, happy in the knowledge that I shall "burn for all eternity" in payment of my sins.
You have very selfish opinions. You've got a false sense of elitism because you believe in something I've more sense not to. Well if I change my mind when it's too late, I'm sure I'll be content with my VIP pass into Hell. I'll get to burn out with The Big D himself.
>From Damien: I think anyone who actively denies God and chooses to blaspheme Jesus is an arrogant, pretentious, bitter dipshit.
A lovely example of a fascist Christian. Everything you are is repugnant to me. Hurry up and piss off to Heaven then. If there was a God, I'm sure you'd be high on his 'drown list'. Where the arrogant, pretentious and bitter comes from is beyond me.
The dipshit comment, although more subtle, is on level with my Tuna Cunt remark. You're just as bad - "offending" those that don't believe the same as you. Yes, I used blaspheme for effect, but one of your cronistians has told us we deserve to burn in hell which is very much on par. We're all equal now, bitches - it's just I'm not offended by your bullshit.

(Not directed to you Bob, you were just last to post)I have a statement to anyone willing to listen to take the challenge:Prove to me God does not exist and we will talk.I find it disturbing people have this mentality of "Oh well if it offends you, it's your fault". I think it just really shows how horrible humanity is anymore. People are so willing to throw blame on other people when the person they should put blame is on himself or herself.Again my main point that people have over looked though I have stated this many times, people need to have more respect for each other on these forums, regardless if it's religion or another topic. There are REAL PEOPLE behind these screen names and that’s something people here really need to remember. Is it really worth saying something that is going to offend another person just because it doesn't personally offend you?? I am not saying people cannot have their own options, PLEASE DO!! But why resort to childish immature name calling, even if it’s towards a deity you don’t believe in? Especially when you know there will be people who will be hurt and/or take offense to your words? Just seems pointless and immature to me.Sorry that was a slight ramble I suppose, but having one of those days I suppose lol

I think the thread title should be changed to "Unforgiveable Tuna Cunt" for kicks. Angelwitch, you've got a sense of humour....

Absolutely. In response to your last post;I find it highly amusing that anyone behind a computer screen would find me calling God a tuna cunt (of all insults!) offensive. If they're that stupid, and sensitive - they deserve to be offended. Get over it.Comments like that don't represent a downfall of humanity, it's a reluctance to communicate on a serious level with imbeciles.
-
You have seriously missed the point and have shown you have little respect for other people. The fact you use the excuse that it's okay to offend people because it's over the Internet just really rings loud and clear to me.
And I am not trying to be rude it just blows my mind that people have the attitude "If you get offended, it's your fault" when the person who said such a remark knows it's going to offend someone when they said it. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions instead of trying to push it on other people.

Quote:I have a statement to anyone willing to listen to take the challenge:Prove to me God does not exist and we will talk.I'm quoting Steve here a bit, but as he has always said, it is near impossible to prove the negative. Prove to me that there is not a tribe of Indians living on Mars. Or prove to me that the jug of milk in my fridge does not answer my prayers. You can't!So it is up to you, or anyone willing, to prove that God does exist! There are many reasons why Religion and Science do not go together, but many people think that they can get along peacefully. Sadly, I am not one of those people. As long as the ignorance that is religious faith continues to create war and reduce our growing civilization into rival clans based on ancient, primitive explanations of the world, we will continue to crawl slowly through the existance of our species until some radical ideal will destroy us all in the name of God.

Bob you beat me to it, I went off to answer a call, came back and hit post - and you had it. Slag.

Actually the burden of proof, in my opinion, would be on both sides simply because both sides there are people trying to say they are right. Problem is, as you stated, these will never be a time when one or the other will be proven as fact; only personal belief. My point is ideally people just need to respect each other regardless of what they believe. Granted that will never happen 100% of the time. But I think if everyone were more aware and cautious of what they say, thing would have a more harmonious tone.

Easy.. Jump off a bridge and see if you fly.. and fart and I'll tell you if I can see a rainbow... ready?? Your rebuttal has no relevance as you are talking about something you can physically grasp, but this conversation is about spirituality, something you physically cannot see or touch.
