I'm down to 230 lbs from 325, but I still seem to have quite a bit of belly. I was wondering if exercises that work the abdominal area (like sit-ups) will help burn fat from that region?

Question regarding sit-ups

Major grats on the weight loss. From what ive been told (dont quote me on this) you cant target weightloss in a certain area. Like you cant do sit ups and have a 6 pack while the rest of your body is plain old fat.

I was thinking that specific regions couldn't be targeted, but wanted to confirm. Thanks for the information.

Although it won't target the fat, working your core muscles (ie: those through the hips, lower back, and in the abdominal region) is probably one of the more beneficial things you can do. You may not see any change in definition without further weight loss, but those muscles are major supporting muscles and give you good posture. Congrats on what you've accomplished so far, that's impressive!Oh, and to Helms or anyone else, how's it going? (if you want to respond send a message, I don't want to pull his thread off topic :P)

From personal experience, crunches/situps did not, however. When I did crunches, and some work with the sides of my torso it seemed to trim me down a little bit.
So perhaps if you work on your whole torso getting toned shoulders/back/sides/ and situps or crunches it will either trim you down, or boost your muscles to go out past the fat thus not needing to worry about it. but I dunno, I'm no expert
