Alright, so I brought this up over at bodybuilding.com but they are a bunch of jackasses over there - I think its roid rage. ANYWAYS. How much pressure can my bones take? I don't want to stunt my growth, and although everyone says it online, I have been told by my doctor AND by the school sport therapist, that I shouldn't squat. Also, is it possible to stunt growth by doing upperbody as well?My question is, how far can I go without overdoing it and risking stunting my growth - and if you make the arguement that weightlifting doesnt stunt your growth, your going to have to back it up with proof, because I know people who stunted their growth lifting too much.On top of this, I'm trying to gain weight. I'm 5'8" and only 123 lbs. I really need to gain weight, what is the best way of doing this - besides EATING MORE, because I do eat alot.Info:5'8"123 lbs.Arms - 10 1/2"Chest - 32 1/2"Waist - 30"

Where's YOUR proof that weight lifting did stunt their growth? How do you know they weren't naturally short. Seriously though, its my guess that you were the jackass over there, you certainly sound like one here, and you were responded to in kind.

The original idea that lifting heavy weights before you have stopped growing can damage growth plates and therefore stunt growth, came from observations that poor Japanese children who had to work carrying heavy weights became short adults. This may well, however, have been due to poor nutrition, and later studies failed to support the idea.To be on the safe side, it is now usually recommended that people who have not stopped growing should not lift anything so heavy they can't do five reps. Studies under those conditions have not shown reduction in growth rate.
