In reply to: Everytime I shower, the smegma goes away for a while, then that eveing or the next day it's back. And it doesn't exactly smell great. Do you use soap when washing?

- 14 yrs old.2) I ONCE went 4 days without showering, ONCE, that's why I said the longest without a shower. 3) I do ofcourse use soap but I'm kind of scared that if I use soap on my penis (With the foreskin retracted) It'll go down my urethra or something else would happen4) I live in Iceland, so I don't think I'd ever get a circumcision (Sp?), because Icelanders (Huge majority of them anyway) don't get cirumcisions.

k dude dont worry about getting it down the urethra..i am 13..heh.. and well i have washed everyday ( sometimes 2x) for as long as i can remember, and if you do it carefully ( as i do ) you wont have a problem. then rinse thoroughly(sp?). Dont worry about it and wash it ONCE a day..if you cant manage that wash it well every other day.

LOL....ewww....yeah, soap helps and showering/bathing at least once a day does too.....if it don't clear up then it might be worse than you think.....go see a doctor if you have to!?

Its perfectly normal for smegma to come back by the next day if you don't shower everyday. Smegma is constantly produced, and if you don't wash it away, it will build up under the foreskin. Your only solution is to shower more often (once a day should do it) and use a bit of soap to wash the smegma away and keep the odor down. Just be sure to rinse well. Also, make sure you have your foreskin retracted behind the head all the way - smegma tends to accumulate most just behind the ridge of the head in that crevasse. If you don't clean it out of there, it will come back even faster. So just make sure you clean out all of it.

I'm going to assume that smemga only occurs in an uncircumsized penis.
-
I'd say yes, particularly that which is visible. Smegma is made up of several things, one of which would be dead skin cells, I would assume that most penises would "slough off" skin such as that in some way. Smegma also contains a lubricating substance that helps the foreskin move easily on and over the head of our penis so it doesn't get stuck!

Smegma is produced by all penises, both circumcised and uncircumcised. Its produced by the glans and the inner foreskin. The difference is since there is no foreskin covering for the smegma to collect under, the smegma never builds up to be visible in a circumcised penis, since it is constantly being rubbed off by underwear, exposed to the air, etc.
