My camera was working fine a few weeks ago. And today i decided to connect it to put some pictures in my computer. I connected it and the camera folder wouldnt open. So i disconnected it and took out the battery and the memory, which by the way is an XD card, and then i put it back in. Then i turned on the camera and it said CARD ERROR. Whats going on?
Do camera memory cards expire?
They don't "expire", but they can go bad. Does the card work in the camera? If it works in the camera, then the problem is probably with your computer. If it doesn't even work in the camera, then try going into the camera setup and reformat the card. By reformating though, you will erase the whle card...
Basically what sdp said. It won't expire, but it can just stop working, which may force you to reformat the card.
That suckss. Whatever nothing else i can do i guess. Thanks
Most memory cards do have an LE (life expectancy) of around 10 years (hence most being guaranteed for 10 years) however, as it is an electronic device there are many factors that can have an effect on this (such as strong magnets + media storage = death to media storage) ... it may be possible to recover what's on your memory card if: A: it works in the camera, or B: you take it to be developed at a digital photo processing station, as the card readers in those machines are more tollerant of errors on the card, after you've done this though, if you can recover the data, I would strongly agree with other posts: reformat the card, as there is probably a bad sector that has developed on it... a reformat should solve this, as it's solid state, so you can't actually have "bad sectors" in the traditional sense of the word... anyway, I'm probably going all geek techy now, but, some storage tips for your memory cards:
Keep in a temperature controlled location (eg: in the shade, not near other electronic gear)
Keep away from food products/drinks/etc
Keep in their original boxes where possible
Don't store in your camera if it's to be left for a long time
most importantly though: Always try to keep a backup so you don't lose your images
Hope this helps you
