PS2

If it's anything like my old TI-83 Plus, it just needs a good shaking.
-
when and where did you buy it? Are these questions relevant? yes.
-
sounds like the mechanics need cleaning and lubricating, just like a CD player, or an 8-track deck.no matter how good the technology gets, the moving parts are always the achillies heel.

My son's does the same thing. I was so pissed, thinking I would have to buy another one, but I guess I should try to clean it first.

My son's best friend, who already has a PS2, received a PS2 from someone else who claimed it was broken. Apparently they got a replacement. Well, they opened it up and did a thorough cleaning. Now it works and he gave it to my son. Perhaps you can take it to a TV/VCR repair place. I'm sure thay can open it up and do a good cleaning.

That clicking sound might be the lens scanning the disk. I'm guessing the lens has been clogged with dust and it is having trouble syncing up with the disk.I don't know what it looks like inside so I can't give you advise on that part, but if the lens can be cleaned with compressed air, that couldn't hurt. You might be able to find a cd lens cleaner. basically it's a CD with tiny brushes on it. As the cd spins and the lens scans the disk the brushes swipe across the lens removing dust particles etc... Just avoid physically touching the lens. You don't want to put a greasy smudge on teh lens or disturb the alignment.

It may be your disks. If there is a scratch on either side of the disk/game near the very center, where the disk most likely syncs with the game, it could be attempting to sync with it, and therefore start the loading/reading process. Just a thought...that happens with one of my games, none of the other ones though. Where did you buy it?
