That's the whole question. Do you value the lives of younger ones or older ones?
-
Neither, I value all.Am I immoral?

In order for me to understand the question, I need to know which one your religion believes would be the correct one to save. I honestly have never heard of morality being involved in making the choice between who to save when it comes to Christianity.

It's almost an unfair question now that I think about it more.I mean, if I save the old man and not the young man, does that make me a terrible person? If I save the young man and not the old man, does that also make me a terrible person?I mean, who's to really say?If it were me personally, I'd feel bad either way.

In Mexico the Aztecs, to their deities, sacrificed thousands of human victims annually. Following the sacrifices, the Aztec priest and people ate the bodies of the victims believing the acts brought them closer to their gods.

Which do you value more, and why?

I would have to think more to determine the questions to be asked, but it shouldn't be too hard.
If your talking about crime rates then that study has already been done. I've included some other statistics that you might be interested in.
-
Atheism/Agnosticism is growing around the world, 3 times more people are losing faith than gaining it.
-
The safest countries in the world have a positive correlation with atheism/agnosticism.
-
Education and intelligence have a positive correlation with atheism/agnosticism.
-
Atheists/agnostics are less likely to be criminals and less likely to divorce.
The Statistics
USA
In 1990, the non-religious were about 7.5% of the population. In 2001 they were 13.2%, now they are 16.1%.Among Americans aged 18-29, 1 in 4 say they are not currently affiliated with any particular religion.
Europe
48% of Europe does not believe in God. 56% of Europeans aged 15-24 do not believe in God. 74% of Britains do not believe in a personal god.Is religion necessary for a healthy society?
High levels of organic atheism are strongly correlated with levels of social health, such as low homicide rates, low poverty rates, low infant mortality rates and low illiteracy rates, as well as high levels of educational attainment, per capita income and gender equality.Psalm 14 - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Statistically, the Bible is wrong.
A study in the journal Nature, by Larson & Whitham in 1998 showed that in the National Academy of the Sciences, 93% don't believe in God.
Paul Bell wrote an article in Mensa Magazine that of the 43 studies carried out since 1927 on the relationship between one's religious belief and one's intelligence and/or eduction level, all but 4 found an inverse connection. That is, the higher one's intelligence or education level, the less one is likely to be religious or hold any "beliefs" of any kind.
In Europe for example, a survey by the Tearfund organisation shows that 65% of people who ended their education at 15 believe in God. Of those whose education ended at 16-19, 49% believe in God. And of those whose education ended at 20+, 45% believe in God.
Crime
Atheists, being a moderate proportion of the US population (8-16% at the time) are disproportionately less numerous in the prison population (0.21%). Christians being about 75% of the US population make up about 75% of the prison population.Divorce Rate
Jews - 30%
Born-again Christians - 27%
Other Christians - 24%
Atheists/Agnostics - 21%The article by Paul Bell was published in Mensa Magazine, February 2002, pp 12-14

What compels us inside to tell ourselves that is outright wrong and disgusting. Maybe we wouldn't want it to happen to ourselves. But who are we to tell someone that it was wrong of them to rape a person, unless we have a certain code of conduct that we follow. Rape, like murder and theft, are bad things for societies. As we are a species that evolved to survive in groups, its important to us that we are safe in our groups. Without trust, empathy and apathy, we wouldn't have gotten as far as we have today.

Did I just bring something back from another thread that I shouldn't have? This is one of maybe 2 or 3 long threads on these forums that I've kept up with in the past few weeks so if I said something that brings up grudges, I didn't know. Oops.
No I had a bad experience with a family member who claimed I was "forcing my beliefs" on him... :fearful: not good at all. But it's alright. You didn't trigger anything scary it was like a flashback. -
Why don't you learn what atheism actually is before you try to argue it has no morals and is bad and all the bullshit you've been saying about it. a ≠ againsttheism ≠ Goda = nottheism = belief in a godatheism = does not believe in a godYou seem to think atheism means being against Christianity, which is quite arrogant. You seem to be of the opinion that Christianity is the only belief in a god. Where do the morals come from? Society. As a means of keeping a society prosperous and, therefore, the individual prosperous, morals are created that are taught at a young age to the newer generations, perpetuating it. In the cannibal situation, the cannibalism has been shown to be prosperous since it produced food. Before Christianity was around, people had morals. Can you really argue that? Otherwise, people would, as you described, have been killing off every single person that there is since they wouldn't have any morals. The morals were around long before Christianity came into being, and the strongest ones were adopted by Christianity, Judaism, etc. Societies morals defined religion's morals.

It's funny because these statistics and the rising atheism/agnosticism fits in with the end times. People are beginning to lose their faith with the increase of knowledge of the origins of life.. God is coming soon and he is not going to be happy. I am too scared to give up my faith and feel to strong and loved by God to give it up. I would not want to be among those "groups who stick together" that will be cast in the lake of fire. I would rather be among God and His angels than be with the devil and his minions in the blackness and emptiness of hell. I pray one day you find the truth, the truth that I see. Have you ever allowed God to enter your life? If you haven't, I suggest you give it a try for a week and see how your life goes for that week. I think it's only experiences like that that will give you faith in God.

If that's what you believe in and you aren't causing other people harm, then believe it as much as you want. I truly do admire Christians who strongly hold on to what they believe in. I'm not trying to nit-pick (because apparently I do), but I don't think someone can just "allow God to enter [their] life" for a week. If someone does find God, they usually stick with it and it doesn't just go away for a week. However, trying to live by the morals of God, most people won't notice much of a difference in their lives minus a struggle to not say curse words.

Some people choose not to live that way of life. That's why they usually cut it off. Don't know why but it happens what are ya gonna do?
There would be a big difference actually. And there's more than to just not cursing lol I always find it funny when people say that. :smirk:

Ditto.

Ok first of all, when I meant that people discovered things about the origins of life and threw God right out the window. That's why he's going to be mad. A true Christian or theist for that matter would keep their faith no matter what. And I can guarantee most atheists have never given God a chance, so of course they're not going to believe in it. You can't believe in something unless you give it a chance. If I told you the sky was blue but you never once looked at it how could you acknowledge that the sky was in fact blue?

Quote:And I can guarantee most atheists have never given God a chance, so of course they're not going to believe in it. You can't believe in something unless you give it a chance. Dead wrong.ADDED: I'm going to be a bit serious here and ask you where the heck do you get these crazy assumptions from?
