Can you name one single religion that their God teaches them to eat fellow humans? If you can find that religion, I'll give you a million dollars.

I'm speechless from this video

Quote:So now you're saying life has worth? When did I say it didn't? Quote:Atheists feel life isn't worth anything and nothing happens when you die, so you're just another being in the machine of evolution. That's quite a ridiculous assumption. Just because some believe nothing happens when we die doesn't mean our lives are meaningless. That's just terrible. Quote:Why is there a struggle to survive and reproduce if life is so meaningless? So if life isn't worth anything then why are there laws that will incriminate you for taking another's life (cough God cough)? If our world never had a God, I can guarantee there would be no laws against murder because life is meaningless! IN FACT, IT WOULD BE SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST IF YOU COULD MURDER ONE ANOTHER The person who could evade murder the best would survive and move on to reproduce. Your strange imagination fascinates me. It's also quite sad.Let me address the bold: First of all, there is a law. It's called murder. I don't want to go to prison. And second, I don't need a God to tell me that taking a life is wrong. I just learned that we have equal right in being here. Who am I to say who lives and who dies? Quote:Every action in the atheistic world goes unjustified. There's no punishment in atheism and it's human nature to be bad unless there is a teacher to tell them it is wrong.I wouldn't say every action. But it is indeed a crazy world. A lot of things go unjustified, no matter what religion you follow. Quote:And who are your parents to say what you did as a child was wrong Virtual? My parents. They raised me and taught me what they've experienced, and trust me, they are pretty good people too. Better than me. Quote:You say you learned from experience? Well how did you become aware from your experience that what you did was wrong; if no one was there to punish you or tell you not to do it you would keep doing it?LOL!My parents are the ones who punished me. I break something, I got punished. I didn't do my studies, I got punished. I hit someone, I got punished. I called someone a name, I got punished. Believe me, they are scarier than dealing with an angry God, I'll tell ya that! Quote:Stealing doesn't hurt you, except it's against the law because of the 10 commandments. It hurts someone else, but isn't it survival of the fittest?Of course stealing hurts me. I don't want no one taking my shit. That's why I don't do it to others. I work hard to earn the things I've bought. Quote:OR MAYBE YOU SHOULD LEARN INSTEAD THAT IT'S WRONG TO DO THAT TO SOMEONE AND WE COULD MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE! Easy there, angry bear. I never said that stealing wasn't wrong, so I don't get where you are getting these asinine assumptions.I think you have an really ugly and twisted view on atheists. It's so bad that you just make things up and twist it to see it the way you want to.
-
Does following the acts of one's religion's deity count? One of my teachers a while back taught about some Hindu-derived tribe in India that follows the rituals of their god who happens to eat the flesh of other human corpses in order to better oneself. I'm not after a million dollars, so I'm not going to spend the time looking up a name but they are out there and they have existed. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for religion. It does help keep society in check, in accordance to that society's main religion. I keep getting the vibe that just because there are a few atheists in your society, you think that they are the cause of everything bad that you've ever witnessed. Maybe I'm just misinterpreting what you're saying.

I felt like you were implying that life has no worth. You haven't said whether you were an atheist or theist. "That's just terrible" Ha! That's just atheism. How do you suppose life does having meaning, if you came from a soup of polymerized materials, you evolved from a bunch of crazy ass apes, there's no God, and nothing happens at all when you die. That's pretty depressing to me. You know the origin of that law against murder? It's called the 10 commandments. Enough said. Why do you suppose you have equal right to be here, unless God had told you that God created us all. According to abiogenesis we have no right to be here and we just came about by complete random chance. NOTHING GOES UNJUSTIFIED IN CHRISTIANITY, ARE YOU SERIOUS?! what do you call JUDGMENT DAY or repentance or the fact that God makes you repent for all your sins or you will not enter the kingdom of heaven? Sure on EARTH things can go unjustified, but not in the eyes of God. He knows every single thing you've done and will do. You're parents are true religious followers I presume. They tried to get you to be a better person. They used the same methods Jesus used except Jesus wasn't as cruel going about doing it. They taught you to be non-violent. They taught you the essence of the 10 commandments. And you haven't seen God get angry! Haha. I meant that stealing someone else's shit doesn't hurt you, it only hurts them. It's wrong because God says it's wrong. If you looked at it that it's just survival of the fittest you would quickly learn not to let your shit get taken. But since God said "Do not steal." it's become ingrained in your mind not to steal because it hurts someone's feelings. Originally Posted By: Virtual_Star Easy there, angry bear. So are you still assuming that atheists don't believe in self-worth? If you are, tisk tisk.Quote:
"That's just terrible" Ha! That's just atheism.
If you believe that, then you don't understand a bit of atheism. Again, you're just making assumptions.Quote:

Because it doesn't matter where we came from. It's what we do in our lives that matters.Quote:

I know we all have equal right because I nor anyone else has the right to say who lives and who dies. I am no better than you and you are no better than me. It's just what I've learned to understand.Quote:

And if you believe that, good for you. But if others don't believe that, then that's fine too. Afterall, we don't know for sure what happens when we die.Don't press your thoughts onto others.

Wayy off, I'm afraid. Please don't make an ass out of you and me.Quote:

Nope, it hurts me because there's a thing called empathy. -
ok, hold up.
a-theism
a = against theism = god
against god
if you're against God, your against his teachings, his existence, his son, the whole shebang.
find a new term if that isn't you.

Quote:They tried to get you to be a better person. They used the same methods Jesus used except Jesus wasn't as cruel going about doing it.Again, probably a misinterpretation, but I found that to be a low blow. How is teaching your kids morals (the same ones you believe) cruel? Is it because a Christian church may not have been directly involved? Quote:a = against theism = god The prefix "a" can also mean "not" or "without." Not very many atheists are dead-set on destroying your religion. You haven't given me any reason that you believe otherwise.
-
I was saying that the fact that they immediately punished her seemed cruel to me.
-
Why does my religious beliefs matter in this discussion?Would it really make that much of a difference? Because I don't see how it would.
-
Because it depends on what your God teaches you.
-
How so?Sorry, but I'm not following you. I don't see how my beliefs would change how this conversation going.
-
What about what society teaches me? Your religion is the basis of most of the laws in the US. I abide by all of them, minus exceeding the speed limit here and there. Is it just completely impossible for someone to learn their morals from their society?
-
Well it would change how I would go about arguing with you over the matter. I've seen the worst of atheists and the nicest of atheists. Just they don't realize that the things they do in life subconsciously contradict what they hate. Read the book "The End of Reason" by Ravi Zacharias. I don't care if you disagree with one thing the man has said, he's far more intelligent than most people on this planet and what he has to say is oftentimes very convincing.
-
I'm saying that if we didn't use religion to base our laws on, how would we have known what was wrong or right?
Rape is wrong, but why is it wrong? Is it wrong because you're forcing a woman to have sex with you when they don't want it? I think so, but yet why is it wrong? What compels us inside to tell ourselves that is outright wrong and disgusting.
Maybe we wouldn't want it to happen to ourselves. But who are we to tell someone that it was wrong of them to rape a person, unless we have a certain code of conduct that we follow.

I think me and/or you should go out and do a survey between theists and atheists to determine who is more likely to do something wrong. I would have to think more to determine the questions to be asked, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Surely, even you've done "wrong" things.
-
Maybe these would be the questions. ThDon't ask if they are atheistic or theistic until the survey has been completed. The survey would only be accurate if you saved the question until the end. 1. A man drops a wallet containing $5000 dollars. No one is around to see it and the man is gone out of sight. Do you keep the wallet and it's money or do you hold on to it and try and track the man down? 2. An old lady is being robbed at knife point. Do you risk your life to fend off the attacker, or do you run away or simply turn away and get away from the scene? 3. A 20 year old man and an very old man are trapped in a burning building. You can only save one, who do you save? 4. You could 100% for sure get away with stealing a TV at a store and no one would ever know and you could never be caught. Do you steal it? I need more help.
-
No one would be saying what's right or wrong, we would just see who's more likely to do what.

Is it more moral to save one over the other? I don't quite understand this question...
