Most businesss pass the cost of doing bid'ness onto the consumer. Regardless of what the cost might be. Why I always laugh when folks talk of taxing bid'nesses higher. I had two pizzas stole from the hood of my car way back. I ran after then, $400.00 in my pocket (missed cash drops...very busy night) I realized that I was in the hood, and would have to fight half the block over two pies, and my car was still running, keys in it, and getting farther and farther away from me. Had I caught them soon, I would have fought over the pies. Why? I care. Too many folks stand around wishing something would happen to the parasites, while doing nothing themselves. White lines, you are a parasite, a blood sucker, a leech. Just a statement of fact. Your two hundred bucks do nothing, and most bid'nesses don't pay attention to Karma. So what you are saying is that if you get jumped by five or six guys, and they are beating the shit out of you, throwing you around like a raggedy andy doll, you would not want some "idiot" to jump in and try to help? I agree.

Gas Rationing

yep, vinc's got it right.I've had my cars both broken into and stollen (twice). All I could think was "what makes these little fuckheads think they have any right to take what I work for?"If w/l wants anarchy, he needs to take the good with the bad. Someday, someone will catch up to him and that guy won't be calling the cops.

In reply to: That's almost as expensive as a carton of wine. Gosh. That must be the good stuff. I didn't even know wine came is a box...LOL
-
I was just reading about the large proliferation of armed people in the affected areas. Even shots being fired at evac helicopters at the Dome. I don't know what they are waiting for but I think the government needs to institute martial law down there.
-
whats the word? Thunderbird! Aged at least a week, and now in asorted flavors!
-
aren't people wonderful?Fortunately, here, Walmart doesn't sell guns and the places that do sell restricted weapons are absolute fortesses.
-
I too have read about shots fired at rescuers. I do know there is a curfew in place. I do wonder if the officials have their hands full at present. I would think these shootings are isolated, and the looting will cease soon. If not, then I guess the full military might will be brought to bear. Maybe a cost saving measure, and to avoid the appearance of being heavy handed. When order breaks down, folks' real character comes to the fore. Sometimes, it is not something worth seeing. Disgusting, even. The nastier, bleak side of humanity. Always there, but held in obeyance by fear of law and the semblence of order. Looting to gain food and water, or looting to get stereos, guns or car batteries. Most seems geared to survival, with a small element engaging in criminal acts not geared to survival, but to gain lucre.

Well I don't have $67.50 to fill my gas tank, I normally budget out $25 a week for gas. Besides I never stole gas before, I just make posts like that to enrage people. One time when I first started driving I forgot to pay $13 or so back when it was only $1.49 a gallon and that was pricey, I went back and paid later.
-
If not, then I guess the full military might will be brought to bear. The Posse Comitatus Act stands in the way of that.
-
I just read that a gas station in Georgia offered premium unleaded for $5.19 a gallon. My god, when is this going to stop? Normal people (by normal I mean people who aren't bloody rich) are not going to be able to afford this... hell, I can barely even afford to.
-
I just make posts like that to enrage people.Yes, we've noticed. I think "enrage" is a bit over the top. In that sentence, I'd replace "enrage people" with "try to manipulate people" or "make people think I'm a douchebag".Donating money to the Red Cross for hurricane relief, however, is a good thing.

In general, the federal government has been slow to respond. But Bush interrupted his vacation to come back to Washington so he could tell his cabinet to just do something. Hopefully something good will happen. If I were in New Orleans and heard Bush's speech yesterday, I'd be completely devastated. What a horrible speech. Meanwhile, people are lacking food and water, much less other things. We Americans should all be ashamed of the response of our government. It's pathetic. But hey, the monkey did interrupt his vacation.

$25 a week....if I was to do that, I may be able to go a day or so. I have a Cherokke thankfully it is only 6 cylinder, but still uses a lot of gas, and has a large gas tank. When gas was 2.60 a gallon I spent 43 bucks on 15 gallons, I fear to what I may spend now, and I do not have that much money anymore. I mean students like myself are going to have a bitch of a time commuting to school and work.
-
Doing the math, I'd say something like $80 on 15 gallons, depemding on how bad it gets in your area.
My car spends a lot of time in the garage.
-
Well it is at 3.20 now, and it is predicted to reach 4 or more, but they usually under-estimate how much it will jump around here.
-
The Posse Comitatus Act stands in the way of that. Seems like it can be easily waived in an emergency.
-
I'm dreading my next run to Sudbury. It's going to cost $150 - $200 in gas for a 3 day trip

"Martial law" means that the regular military get police authority. There's no need for that now, since the National Guard doesn't fall under the act. The Guard is working under the aegis of the local police. But I don't understand why it took so long to get the Guard into the disaster area. And given the National Guard deployment in the Middle East, we are pretty screwed if there's another disater any time soon. The federal goverment has been very slow to respond, in general. Bush's speech Wednesday afternoon was just pathetic. I'm not sure that he understood what was going on.
-
on a side note, we had martial law declared in Quebec during the "October Crisis"
-
Yeah I know what martial law is.
I don't know how the National Guard works with regards to response time. Seems you need to call the person from civilian life, get them equipped and then ship them out.. Takes too long. The active military should should have just moved in and taken over.
The preparation and response by our government seems to be quite weak and disappointing.
