haha!
nope, this will be 100% Candaian-trashed (ok, with a healthy dose of the Geordie blood too)

It's his birthday!!!
-
You darn Canadians! Why can't you even pretend to be a bit Irish like the Americans do?
-
you just be damd glad that I'm way more accepting of the Irish than my dad was!Hell, I had to pull him off some poor musician in a local pub. It was StGeorge's day. Here in Canada, the pubs tend to have a quaint but generic "brittish" feel so all the Saints' days are celebrated. So, they had the "generic pub band" playinf for StGeorge's day and they played a bit of this and that, including a few Irish songs and (god fogive them) one Irish rebel song. That sent poor old da right over the edge. Now picture... a very big man from Newcastle in his late 50s, blind, 15 pints into the night and annoyed with the Irish rebel songs. Mom and I were trying to bring him back to the table, away from the poor unknowing band (because we're reasonable OF COURSE)Then, some lad thinks he should get into it with this "old guy" (a bloody cockney, no less) not realising that the other big guy is the old guy's son.The cockney pulls back to 'blind side' my dad. I step inbetween, grab his fist, put my nose to his and said "don't" (should have said "divn't" but no one understands Geordie here)The cockney bought me a beer before he left.

Why can't you even pretend to be a bit Irish like the Americans do? I lived around Boston for a while, and I didn't realize that we were pretending. Can I take back all those confessions?
-
I don't know why but there is something about St.George's Day that just makes me uneasy... In reply to: Can I take back all those confessions? Being Irish and being Catholic are the same thing now? I haven't been to confession since my old school mad me go, and that was over 6 years ago. We had to go before our Confirmation, all the religious crap that I was put through.... grr.
-
We must have gone overboard with our Irishness. We were more Irish than the Irish. (Sort of like the Quebecois and the French.)
-
Bostonians totally rock the fake Irishness.
-
Nah, you probably had the same emphasis of religion in your youth as most Irish people here that are your age (whatever your age is).Whats changed is now we all have a choice. I chose to ignore religion and god and all that fancy stuff because I'm not really the kind of person to put my faith in something so blindly. Several of my best friends on the other hand accept religion completely. They go to church every Sunday morning, they bless themselves when passing a church or a funeral, the whole shabang!
-
In reply to: Being Irish and being Catholic are the same thing now? Listen, all kidding aside, that's not a conflict that is part of my life. I was born in Canada (XX years ago) and my parents were from NE England. I'm proud of who I am but I don't hate others because of who I am.make sense?
-
there have been some AWSOME bands from Boston! One of my fav bands ever is "The Freeze"
-
I heard that Milwaukee has a large Irish community.
-
Wait a minute...who are you? I need to know so I know whether I need to hate you or not.
I'll have to check the most recent U.S. government-issued list of who I'm supposed to hate now. As long as you're not Iranian, North Korean, or Syrian you should be OK.
-
The whole Irish/Catholic thing was directed at Steve. To be honest, I have no idea what religion and nationality problems (if any) are in Canada. Altho I have heard that Canada is one of the most tolerant countries.
-
In reply to: Altho I have heard that Canada is one of the most tolerant countries. it probably is. It's far from perfect! far far far!being the old punk that i am, I've spent times with nazis but I really think that Canadains might be the most multicutural and accepting people. When Star Trek picked SanFran as the location for the federation of planets... if this kinda thing ever hapens, it'll likely be in Canada
-
You have at least one Canada-hating immigrant who seems far from tolerant.
-
In reply to:
As long as you're not Iranian,
Hey, I happen to know an Iranian republican who is a very nice guy.
-
He certainly is. He's a lot closer to the adminstration than he is to the Axis of Evil.
